What I Wore Today: The Last Christmas Party

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Finally! Our last Christmas Party for this holiday season! I am officially pooped! This party was held for the "boys" of Dennis's generator company so it was pretty much laid-back and casual. The event was held outdoors in the compound with tents and chairs and tables scattered about. Our friends from K.O. Jones performed all-time hits such as The Rolling Stones "satisfaction", AC/DC's "you shook me all night long" and a bunch of other great Rock N' Roll songs.
Bryan of "Menaya" fame was kind enough to jam with us as well as some other friends...
The draft beer was flowing and the food was delish. By 11:30pm, we were ready to call it a night (we started around 5pm).
boyfriend shirt - some stall in greenhills
liquid leggings - Ebay
black and white scarf - vintage
leopard print flats - Balenciaga =) woohoo!

What I Wore Today: (Little Ms. Eggplant) Gap x Junk Food

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

A cousin of Dennis from the states gifted my daughter these shirts for Christmas. They're the result of Gap Kids collaboration with popular t brand Junk Food. I just had to share cause I am in love with these shirts. I find them totally cute.
They're stylized for little girls by adding a lot of glitter to these classic rock shirts (not so visible in the photo).
She also has another one exactly like this but with glitter. So cute!

Blackberry Blues

Ok, remember my dilemma about the shoes vs. phone scenario? Here's what I did, I got both! =D hehe, but instead I got a cheaper BlackBerry to compensate.

I love the shoes, they are so nice to me and really, really pretty. But the BlackBerry is a different story...Maybe I'm just not tech savvy but I'm having such a hard time setting it up, like with the computer and stuff, syncing and shit. My back hurts from being on the computer all day reading BlackBerry forums searching for answers from other people who have had the same problems as me. There are a lot like me (thank God!).

Aaargh! I just wanna give up and just use it like a regular old phone and not care about the apps. I am seriously contemplating on taking my BB and laptop to a professional and have him do all the hard work for me while I get a massage.

"Bwisit BlackBerry!"

I am just really frustrated =(

The C-String Thong...What the?!?

Monday, December 27, 2010

Have you heard of the "C-String" Thong? This is the latest in "thong" technology. I'm sure some black dude is already making up a song about this current piece of underwear as I write.

Would you wear it? Personally, I find it quite ridiculous and it looks terribly uncomfortable. Headpiece or Underwear? You decide.
somebody forgot her monthly trip to the waxing salon....
"we've got bush!" haha!
They come in all patterns and colors you can dream of, some even have fur (like pic above) for the pubic hair deprived...
They say you can wear them with dresses and even go swimming with them to avoid getting bikini tan lines. What if it falls off while walking?! I say it would be totally embarrassing to pick up your underwear in public.

So the C-thong, would YOU wear it? I wonder if this trend is gonna take off, I wouldn't be surprised...I am half expecting to see someone like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton on TMZ sporting this.

iPhone/Blackberry vs. Balenciaga

Sunday, December 26, 2010

I need/want a new phone and I've been saving up enough money to buy one. But, look at these leopard print flats from Balenciaga!!! They are so beautiful! I want them...badly! If you were me, would you go with shoes or a phone? I need help! And I need help fast because I may act on impulse...

Bargain Finds: Coach Platforms

A couple days ago, I had to walk back to Greenhills to buy some last minute Christmas presents. I was bitching the whole time cause the crowd was terrible. There were so many people in cue, it was unbelievable! Good thing I found these on the way out:
Passed by Lucky Sisters and saw these on sale. Last pair, in size! Lucky me, they were down to P1500!

What I Wore Today: Christmas Dinner

We celebrated the eve of Christmas with an intimate dinner at a relative's home nearby. The food was fantastic. Everything was from Alba's (spanish restaurant). We had roast turkey, lechon, paella and prawns thermidore. There was also some pancit but I was too stuffed to try it. Dennis was tiddly by eleven pm from all the wine, I didn't have a glass 'til a bit later, which extended into the wee hours of the morning. How was your Christmas? Hope everyone had a nice time

What A Night, What A Night!

Saturday, December 25, 2010

Ooooh, my head is throbbing...woke up today at 11:30am with a serious hangover!

We had the usual dinner/noche buena last night with the family of Dennis that ended around one in the morning. Got home, prepared my daughter for bed, helped her get some shut-eye, then joined Dennis and some other friends, who came over, for some serious holiday drinking.

We said our goodbyes around six in the morning and here I am five hours later, after having prepared some lunch, eating and playing with my daughter, on our dining table, writing this entry. Man, it is hard being a mother with a hangover. And it's not over, later today, we are attending another party...I'd like to sit this one out but once you're there and the sun begins to set, it gets harder.

The holidays are a lot of fun but also very exhausting!

The Chocolate Kiss Cafe + Vintage Store

Thursday, December 23, 2010

Last Friday, Dennis and I found ourselves being flagged down by an MMDA (traffic) officer. Initially, we thought he was a dirty cop just looking for "merienda (snack) money or pamasko (xmas gift)". We just drove past him, not in the mood to get pulled over, good thing he didn't have a motorcycle! We started talking about how corrupt they get until it dawned on us that it was a Friday and the car we were using was number coded. I guess the cop wasn't so dirty after all... It was about 5pm and we needed to get the car parked fast to avoid getting hailed down again. Lucky for us, the nearest establishment was the Chocolate Kiss Cafe on A. Roces Ave., Quezon City.

I've heard a lot of good things about this place many times before from friends of mine who go to UP. This is my first time to try it though and I must say it was a very pleasant experience.

The interiors are simple but very charming. This photo doesn't do justice to the place. It feels much more warm, welcoming and homey in there.
Their walls are also scattered with beautiful paintings like this one, which I fell in love with. All painting are made by up and coming artists and are for sale, just ask your waiter.
Now the important part, the food:
I ordered the Chicken Kiev (P205) for my daughter. This was delicious, perfect comfort food. I kept on sneaking in bites for myself. The chicken is stuffed with some sort of cheese I couldn't identify but similar to ricotta or cottage cheese, and herbs. The gravy reminds me of my grandma's. This brought me home!

I had their Hainanese Chicken (P205) which was not fantastic but good enough not to make you feel bad about paying your bill. The soap was terribly oil and piping hot! We burned our tongues sipping it. The chicken is a bit small and dry on the edges but the condiments they used are which was probably the saving grace for this dish.

Dennis wanted their Callos but by the time we got there, they were all out (I guess it's really good). He ordered their ribs (P195) instead which I have to say was a good decision. This is a dish made with men in mind. A big slab of juicy ribs smothered with a sort of Jack Daniels glaze. A really macho and savory dish.
For dessert, my daughter had the chocolate chip cheesecake. It's nothing new or remarkable but nonetheless good.
The reason behind The Chocolate Kiss Cafe's success is probably because of the simplicity and familiarity of their food plus the quality of the ingredients they use. It feels like home cooking with a twist and gives you a natural sense of well being and satisfaction. I am definitely going back for more. Maybe some pasta next time.
It was about 6:15 when we finished having dinner. Still too early to hit the road (number coding ends at 7pm), good thing there was a Papemelroti beside The Chocolate Kiss with a secret treasure trove upstairs. A pretty and quaint vintage shop!
The vintage clothes on display are already clean and laundered, just the right amount of pieces to keep you from feeling overwhelmed. They are carefully hand-picked from different sources. There are also shelves solely dedicated to knits.
I found this pretty leather stamped wallet for only P150.
selection of vintage wallets, bags and purses
some inspiring key holders from papemelroti

Burberry Strapped Platforms

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Just when I am totally broke, I come across an ad for these:
My heart skipped a beat when I first saw the other photos, I was already scheming for extra moolah in my budget, until after further inspection, I sighed a sigh of relief (hehe) when I noticed the differences. The wider straps on the Burberry and the much higher platform which are the two things I adore about the shoe. Thank goodness! Less to worry about...Now if I can only get my hands on the real ones:

Kitchen at Greenbelt- A Review

I don't often visit Greenbelt anymore the same way I used to years ago but a few days ago I found myself in the area for lunch. The place is so different from how I remembered it (I live under a rock!), a lot of the old restaurants I used to frequent aren't there anymore and a lot have shuffled around the place. It was confusing for me, maybe that's why I decided to eat in Kitchen because Kitchen is like a fossil in Greenbelt. It's been there since it opened and I am quite familiar with the place.
We ordered the Green Thumb salad for P156.25
The Lazy Oaf - P174.11
Under the Sun - P227.60
Clamming Up - P168.71
The place has been renovated since my last visit which was years ago. The new interiors are very chic, like a New York style up market cafeteria. The old benches and long tables are from the past which I think give Kitchen it's unique character are still around.

Like I said, I haven't been in awhile so I don't really remember how the food in Kitchen used to be like, I just remember frequenting it. Now though, after this visit, I'm guessing it'll be my last, or maybe I just ordered the wrong dishes.

Kitchen is supposed to be a "modern kitchen" which translates to fusion cuisine. I'm not a fan of fusion but I admit that the few times it's done right, it's quite remarkable. In this case however, I felt like everything was just fused with sweet chili sauce. All the dishes except for Clamming Up, gave the same aftertaste, which was, you guessed it, grocery bought sweet chili sauce. The part that infuriates me is that this very distinct taste was not included in any of the descriptions of the above dishes in their menu except maybe when it came to the salad, but I'm not so sure... Under the Sun had the description of a seafood pasta with tomato cream sauce which I thought would be like the traditional lobster with tomato cream sauce pasta L'Incontro and Gourdo's serves, I didn't expect it to be sweet and sour. Clamming up gives you the impression of a Vongole (usually Linguine noodles served with Clams and a white wine sauce)style pasta dish but instead it is just average pesto sauce sprinkled with a few clams. Out of all the dishes, the salad was my favorite. The Lazy Oaf was good in the beginning but you get tired of it towards the end...My guess is becasue of that darn sweet chili aftertaste...
