What I Wore Today: Final Epic Fail

Here's my final post with blonde hassle hair. I think going light makes me look elder :S Anyway, this was taken the day after I did the first part of my ombre. I was invited to the Johnson's launch of their latest endorser, Judy Ann Santos at the Edsa Shangri-la Hotel.

The event was at 11:30, I woke up at 11am in utter panic. First, my head really hurt from a really bad hangover, second, I didn't really feel like going to the event with blonde hair and having my photo taken numerous times :S, third, where was I going to find the time to have coffee, take a shower, eat a little and dress up before the event?

After a few hours, I finally was able to leave the house...

DIY Ombre Hair Tutorial

I have searched numerous online tutorials for ombre hair but I only chanced upon girls doing ombre to their Caucasian hair. Asian hair reacts very differently to hair products so I thought I'd post my "Asian Version".

Since we live in the P.I., it is quite difficult to come across highlighting kits but this Hair Bleach Powder from HBC does the job and if you read the back label, it is also used for highlighting.
What you'll need for this tutorial:

1. old t-shirt you don't mind getting ruined.
2. plastic mixing bowl
3. applicator brush
4. hair bleach powder
5. oxidizing lotion
6. hair clips

-you can find everything at HBC for less than P200 total.

Combine bleach powder and oxidizing lotion in a plastic bowl. Mix thoroughly with the other end of your applicator brush or a disposable plastic spoon. The end product will look like this:

Next, part your hair in the middle and secure with clips:

Give yourself a hard look in the mirror and eyeball where you want your ombre highlights to start. I suggest around the chin area. Grab the ends of your hair by section and paint on the bleach:

I suggest wearing gloves cause the bleach will hurt your hands, trust me!

The packet says leave on for 30 minutes. I left mine on for an hour but it still wasn't that light. If you're going after platinum, you must leave it for over an hour at your own risk. You may re-apply bleach during this waiting period in intervals. Let it process like so, being careful to keep away from the eye area.

After an hour, rinse thoroughly in the shower, shampoo then apply an intensive conditioner (I suggest doing this everyday for at least a week after dyeing). Blow dry and enjoy! :)
If you already have light color treated hair before doing ombre (like mine, I think my shade is Light Ash Blonde), the contrast will be more gradient and not as striking but I think it definitely still adds interest to the hair.

Follow my tips to the T and don't experiment with something else (like I did), I can't guarantee it'll work. I've already emitted and edited the mistakes I made on my hair in this tutorial so your results will pretty much be positive. Hope this was helpful to you :)

What I Wore Today: K Pop!

If you follow me on twitter, you probably already know that I was up to no good a couple of days ago. If I was my hair, I would probably be going on strike already or hiding in fear. :P

Several months ago, me and my sis-in-law were talking about the ombre hair trend. We both really loved the look but C is afraid of bleach where as I, on the other hand, embrace it. I used to have a hot pink fawhawk at one time and multi-colored locks shortly after. I blame it on my prolonged Singapore stay.

So to make the long story short, I couldn't get over the ombre trend and I have been dying to try out since then. I admit, I was a tad bit scared cause it was the first time I was ever going to bleach my hair by myself. I used to have it done in the salon all the time.

Because of the storm, my daughter didn't have school for 2 days and was out playing with friends. When I have a lot of free time on my hands, I experiment :P

Epic fail! ....As you can see, nothing happened. Why? Because I'm hard headed like that. I read in multiple sites not to use regular blonde hair dye because it won't work. They said you needed more lift than a regular dye can provide. I reasoned with myself and thought I don't want a severe contrast and I don't have caucasian hair still....They're right as you can see...lesson learned. always LISTEN and FOLLOW! specially when it comes to DYI-ing your hair.

I needed a break and more hair dye so off I went to Greenhills for some yummy buttermillk pancakes from Flapjacks.
They didn't have a highlighting kit in Watson's so I went to HBC and bought powdered hair bleach....

Hello K, Pop! Another epic fail! Let's see, where did I go wrong...this time, I followed everything I read online to a T. If you're not caucasian or have color treated hair to begin with, DON'T. Local highlighting kits act differently from creamlights.

In one online tutorial, they said to apply first to your tips, let process, then apply more towards the midsection of your hair and a few strands across your face for highlighting. I followed everything and ended up with blonde streaky hair ala K Pop :(

Which I had to endure for an entire day + an EVENT (:S) cause by the time I was done, all the stores were closed and I couldn't head out for another bottle of dye :( So you will see one more post of mine with freakishly blonde hair that looks like balayage gone wrong....

Finally, after a third bottle of dye....Success!

This was taken by my daughter while I was lounging around in sweats. (My favorite at home uniform for cold weather :)) I'm so relieved to be without my blonde hair. I've always wanted to be blonde but when it finally happened by accident, I couldn't wait to be a brunette again!

I will post a step by step tutorial on how to do ombre hair (minus the mistakes :P, say thank you to me for being your guinea pig!), later in the day.

And lastly, I couldn't be more than happy to say that in such a timely occurrence, I received an email from Pax of Drowning Equilibriums, saying that I won a jar of Lory's hair cream! Perfect timing for my super stressed out locks!

I think it was a few months ago when Mikka first asked if she could feature me as the "Stylish Mama of the Month" for her blog A Mischmashed Life. Due mostly in part to gruelling mom schedules, we were only able to shoot the feature a week ago.

My Favorite Decade

PMS-ing and not really in the mood to do an outfit shot today. I just thought I'd share some images from fashionising (I think...I've had these in my hard drive for quite some time).

I think the shots+outfits are breathtaking especially since they're inspired by my most favorite decade ever, the seventies.

I bought some hair dye yesterday... planning to do ombre or balayage on my hair. Just trying to gain more confidence to actually get it started. I'm afraid I might end up looking like a hoochie mama if I don't do it right :P

I also desperately need to set an appointment with browhaus, my brows are out of control! I wish they open a branch nearby soon.

What I Wore Today: the 90's

Bad news, I am feeling the onslaught of PMS again. Along with it, indecisiveness. I'm sure you all get the same feeling of bloatedness and not knowing what to wear when the monthly visitor starts lurking in. During this period, everything I put on looks drab to me and I can't seem to put outfits together. I guess I've found my Achilles heel.

Thank god for this maxi dress from Funky Plum Vintage! It's such a no-brainer, all you have to do is put it on. Shoes don't even matter much cause they almost can't be seen :P Saves me a lot of dressing up time.
I love that the dress is also vintage from Paris, I'm guessing circa 90's? What if someone famous wore it?? :P I just love the mystery that goes hand in hand with vintage clothes.

Anyway, I got a text message from my favorite Vinyl shop a few days ago saying that they were on sale. I naturally HAD to go. So off we went to Cubao X, which is also in my top 10 list of places to hang out in, for some serious vinyl hunting.

This is a Hendrix rug hanging in their store which I plan to steal in a day or two...:P

scouring the store for records...you can lounge on the second floor and actually share a drink with the owner while sampling your picks. cool huh?

After a tiring day of searching the entire store for titles I wanted to take home, we decided to reward ourselves with some grub from Bellini's. I was finally able to get my Gnocchi fix! If you ever pass by Bellini's, you have to order it. It's orgasmic and it always leaves you wanting more. Hence the monthly Gnocchi cravings :P I'd make them at home but they're so troublesome to prepare.

Dennis tried their roast chicken for the first time which was ginormous. It was perfectly cooked with meat literally falling off the bone. It has a subtle spicy kick to it which does an awesome job of accentuating the flavor of the rosemary even more.

And when you ask for extra cheese, they give you an entire bowl of freshly grated Parmesan cheese!

And free dessert! I'm not sure what they're called, but they're basically chocolate cupcakes with liquor. It has such a moist center, it almost feels like a souffle in the middle.

And the babies I went home with:

Bowie, Blondi, Cars, JT, Supertramp, Firefall, Baez!!!

I must say this was a successful vinyl shopping trip. The Blondie LP is beyond!!!

I love the new rhinestone studded sunglasses I recently got from Funky Plum Vintage. It's dramatically oversized which makes me feel safe hiding behind them. The rhinestones also remind me of something Kat Von D would maybe wear. Very Hollywood, very rockstar. LOL :P


We did a bit of shopping, eyeing on the green JC Lita's again. My size is still available and I feel like they're just waiting fro me to snag them up but I don't know if I need a third pair in a different color. Maybe if it was the tapestry or the gold glittery one. Anyway, got some books cause there's nothing better than curling up on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee and a good book :)

I'm all alone at home this Sunday and I'm still figuring out what to do. I haven't spent a Sunday alone in ages!
