Topshop Sequin Dress

I have always had a soft spot for the 1920's. Feathers, speakeasys, Chanel, sequins, elaborate headresses, revolutionaries. What's not to love?

The 1920's also represent a big breakthrough in fashion spearheded by none other than the legendary, Coco Chanel.

Gone were the days of corsets, boning, restrictive clothing and floor length hems. Menswear inspired clothing, shift dresses and the first ever little black dress made out of inexpensive jersey took centerstage.

My love for the twenties goes way back as documented by this dress I bought on sale in Topshop over 5 years ago. I didn't have anywhere to wear it then but it was something I just had to have. It's been sitting in my closet all this time just waiting for the perfect opportunity to be worn.

When I received the Cinema Noir invite from Laura Mercier, I knew it was the perfect occasion for my dress to make its first public appearance.

I added a DIY headpiece and a low-slung armor shoulder bag to complete the look. Wish there were more opportunities to dress up like this.

After the event, I swapped my beaded headpiece for this quirky oversized crown that my good friend Ana of Anagon Collection created with me as her muse and added a black fur coat to make the look even more "royal".

Check out her online shop for more unique headpieces like this one.
