Postura Project Day 30 - White & Gold

Monday, May 28, 2012

Last day for my Postura Project challenge! Which has me thinking...should I go back to naming my outfit posts with "What I Wore Today" or should I just put descriptive titles on instead? Whatchuthink?

outfit: Jhajing gold collar, be top, forever21 sequined skirt, zara shoes

Back to the outfit...wore this to the video shoot we did for Zalora in Skye. Have you seen it? It's got me and some other bloggers from Bloggers United lipsyncing and "acting" to Nicki Minaj's Starships. I wasn't really familiar with her music so I was petrified the first time I heard the song. She sings so fast and it was so hard to keep up with her!

Albeit somewhat embarassing, I think it is my duty as one of the bloggers in the video to promote it since they are hoping to make it go viral.

So for your viewing pleasure...here's me with really bad acting :P

Enjoy!

High Cost Of Beauty - The Shocking History Of Perfect Skin

When it comes to skincare and its history, we are probably only most familiar with Cleopatra bathing in milk. The thing with history is that more often than not, only the highlights of the story are passed down from generation to generation with the important details usually put on the backburner and slowly forgotten as the grapevine grows. Cleopatra actually used sour milk…and not to bathe in. She used it to exfoliate. Bet you didn’t know that aside from taking over neighboring regions, our ancients were also busy exfoliating their skin!

Another fun fact, skincare goes as far back as 1500, with sandpaper being used to exfoliate their skin! Horrendous? Yes, but it just goes to show the extents of what people will do to achieve perfect skin and avoid the dreaded “chastity pimples”. That’s what Acne was most commonly referred to in the 1930’s (a pretty apt name ‘til today if you ask me). Some of the treatments created by our ancestors to achieve a flawless complexion are really out of this world, although some, like the use of olive oil on our skin are still religiously practiced by most people today.

Check out this thoroughly entertaining timeline, detailing the innovations in skin care from sandpaper ‘til the latest “blue light” portable device that zaps acne on the go from Tanda. Enjoy!

Swensen's - Ice Cream Parlor In Manila

Sunday, May 27, 2012

Swensen's was one of my favorite restaurants in Singapore when I use to jet back and forth from Manila before. The warm atmosphere and delicious food had a way of beconing me all the way from Tampines to Orchard. That was way back, and you know how it is when it comes to places and habits you get used to, you terribly miss it when they become unattainable....but not anymore.

The people behind Grilla and TOSH (The Old Spaghetti House) have finally brought Swensen's to us and I was more than excited to oblige when they offered me and my blog friends a taste test!

We had our little treat in their Eastwood Branch which is located on the 2nd floor of the new Eastwood Mall:

Swensen's is primarily know for their ice cream which they have been producing in San Franciso since 1948. After 63 years of making delicious ice cream, they now have accumulated a total of 180 flavors and numerous Swensen's branches across the United States and around the world.

What I love most about Swensen's?

The photos in the menu are identical to the dishes served.

That afternoon, we had more than our fill of ginormous sundaes, floats and parfaits. Name it, Swenson's has it.

When I was younger, I used to enjoy visiting ice cream parlors with my family. For more than a decade, the tradition stopped for lack of a "proper ice cream parlor" in the Metro. I'm glad Swensen's opened shop in Manila just in time for Nikola's childhood. I am looking forward to many Sunday visits with her and my family.

Swensen's is a fun place to hang out and share stories while being comforted with large bowls of delicious ice cream.

My only request would be for them to bring the full menu in. The savory delights that Swensen's Singapore had to offer are just as drool worthy as their unique ice cream creations.

For more info on Swensen's, visit their Facebook Page

Postura Project Day 29: Palazzo Turned Hi-Slit Maxi

Friday, May 25, 2012

Remember when Palazzo's were all the rage some months back? I got me a couple pairs but I never really took to them the way I did maxi's cause palazzos have this certain way of making me look short-er :P

So what to do with all the forgotten pairs piling up in the back of my closet? A DIY project! I converted all my palazzos into hi-slit maxi's which silhouette I have really been loving lately. I only put a single slit on these but I am really contemplating on adding another one. In love with the laidback yet "leggy" look that has sort of  been a daily uniform for me while doing errands and taking Nikola to ballet school. It is the most comfortable thing to wear especially when paired with my snakeskin Tkees from The Flatshop and my favorite Ziggy Stardust shirt.

That's it for now, been a really crazy week. Will be heading off to SMX again later for fashion week. Hope you enjoyed this post. Will share the tutorial for this process soon. Have a great weekend! :)

If you’re looking for a site where you can browse and buy products from our talented local designers, look no further. Introducing Designer Row, a brand new section on Summit Media’s virtual mall, TheMall.ph. With the cause of supporting local talents in mind, the new section features the Philippine fashion industry’s well-loved designers. First up we have Arnold Galang and his many incarnations of the little black dress, Enrico Carado with his collection of boldly printed cocktail dresses, Lally Dizon and her elegant leather clutches, and Yekky Balingit’s Miadore with his edgy accessories.

A fashionable transition from SUMMER to RAINY DAY!

With the weather going from sunny to rainy lately, Supermodel and Project Runway host Heidi Klum was right when she said “in fashion one day you’re in and the next day you’re out!” With the weather in transition don’t let your style be left out! In these days, staying in-style is actually easy and exciting and not expensive at all! With just a couple of small purchases of the right accessories and mix and clothes you have, you don’t have to spend a lot!
The key to a fashionable “transition” style is not to change the clothes that you wear or the summer style you rock with your tan from your weekend vacation, it still is summer but not completely!  All you need to do to “Accessorize!”
The key to changing your looks from day to night, office to party or even from sunny to rainy isn’t expensive after all. All you need are a couple of bags and shoes and a couple of accessories and you are ready to be in-fashion regardless of the weather or where you are going!
Tomato, your up to the minute fashion retail store gives you a wide collection of bags, shoes and watches that will make any piece of clothing you wear appropriate for any weather or occasion.  Just like a good looking boyfriend in your arms that catches everyone’s attention when you walk in the malls, Tomato’s bags are lookers! The designs and styles are so “now” yet utilitarian.  Colors range from bright colors to earth tone palette and are surprisingly so affordable that you can buy multiple pieces to suit your mood for the day!  Another attention grabbing TOMATO merchandise are their wide selection of sandals and flats that are simply drop dead gorgeous! So affordably fashionable and comfortable. Perfect for the heat of the sun or the rain of the cloudy weather!  So if you are still confused of what clothes to wear during these times, don’t be anymore. Just wear anything you will look good in and grab some TOMATO delicious bags and flats and you are set to go anywhere you want!

HOLLYWOOD’S CHOICE OF SHADES WILL SOON LAND IN PHILIPPINE SHORES: SUPER SUNGLASSES

Beyonce with Super Sunglasses SUPER, by RETROSUPERFUTURE®, ignited the phenomenon of acetate sunglasses and Super Sunglasses will soon be on Philippine shores. They are made in multiple color graduations, which have generated a big trend starting in 2007. Super is the first brand to produce a complete range of colorful fashion sunglasses combining these characteristics together with a very high quality manufacturing process. Super Sunglasses are made with the highest possible standards, handcrafted in Italy by the best manufacturers and with the best materials. For this reason, Super also decided to adopt Zeiss lenses, which guarantee an extremely high level of protection to the eyes in all conditions.

Since their introduction, artists, celebrities, athletes, and trendsetters have been wearing Super Sunglasses: Kanye West, Daft Punk, Who Made Who, Justice, Pedro Winter (and his “Ed Crew”), Simian Mobile Disco, CSS, St. Vincent, The Kills, Elio Fiorucci, Sienna MIller, Jessica Alba and Valentino Rossi are just a few who have been seen sporting a Super.

Officially launched in Spring 2007, Super is currently distributed in over 350 shops worldwide. You can find them in some of the most influential trend-leaders stores such as Colette in Paris, Barney's New York, 10 Corso Como in Milan, Bodega in Boston, Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Steven Alan, Paris Texas in Denmark, Caliroots in Sweden, and many others.

In its first year, Super was already featured in prestigious international magazines like Vogue (USA), i-D (UK), WAD (France), NY Times (USA), People Style Watch (USA) as well as hundreds of online blogs including High Snobiety, Hype Beast, Josh Spear, and SlamXHype. Kanye West and Gwen Stefani SUPER has also enjoyed important collaboration projects. Special limited edition sunglasses starting with Caliroots by Super produced 50 units and were sold-out in three days. Barneys NY by Super produced only 100 pieces, and the Alife by Super have been featured as the product of the day at the Bread & Butter Barcelona tradeshow in Summer 2008. The Story Behind the Shades Daniel Beckerman is the founder of Super by Retrosuperfuture. He is also the publisher, with his brother Simon, of PIG Magazine, the most prestigious independent music and fashion magazine in Italy, which is paired with PIG Radio, an influential indie music web-radio. The idea came out from Daniel when he realized that there was no eyewear brand that was representing a certain type of fashion culture: “What about all the other street couture brands? Nobody was playing fun in eyewear like the great expressions you can see in the clothing business. All shades were black, tortoise, grey and maybe some white or red, that’s it… where are the shades for me and my friends?” David Beckham At this point Daniel asked Simon and Sean Beolchini to follow him in all of the creative aspects that Super had to face. The flea markets have been a great inspiration, and the fact that Sean, before Super, had always worn a different pair of shades for the different moods of the day. The problem was quality and eye protection, an important aspect of eyewear that many people do not underestimate. The business strategy, if there was one, was to give people something that was the best quality product at the most reasonable price. Luckily the home of the team was Italy, the best country in which to produce sunglasses. Super teamed up with one of the most well-known German lens company Zeiss' sunlenses division: after a first look, Zeiss enthusiastically joined the project. Rihanna The prototypes were produced on winter 2006 and the team, who were wearing them at all the events they attended, realized the immediate responses they were having from people. Together with Milan’s showroom Pink and sales master Chicco d’Errico, Super did an astonishing sales campaign. All the top stores carrying the sunglasses were continuously making reorders. Super Sunglasses had become such a hit that big names in the industry quickly updated their collections and introduced similar “colorized” sunglasses with multiple colors, confirming and giving credit to Super for anticipating this worldwide phenomenon. Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry For the second season, Super introduced spin-offs from the original model. They introduced newer shapes such as the “Flat Tops” and the “Ciccio,” and the first colored/mirrored Zeiss sun lens made with a special technique called Flash Electric. Super also introduced various other production techniques like particular prints and special engraving for the first time on these types of sunglasses. Nicki Minaj and Ciara wearing Super Sunglasses Watch out for Super Sunglasses in the Philippines! # # # # #

Postura Project Day 28 - Dressing up The Muscle Shirt

Monday, May 21, 2012

Just a few days left on my Postura Challenge. For my 28th installment, I decided to showcase a new favorite in my closet...The 3-pack tees from a Perfect White Shirt. The Perfect White Shirt is perfect for Postura because it is a locally owned company and all their products are produced in our country as well.

I am so addicted to these shirts that I bought them in several sizes since they only cost P888/pack, roughly P200+ea?. Larger ones for gym, lazy and fat days + smaller ones for dressing up or down in some cases.

They have been my constant uniform these past few days, from errands to dinners.

So anyway, back to the outfit, I paired my white muscle tee with black skinny jeans, black pumps from CMG, and a black sequined sleeve blazer from Forever21.  To add pop and to pull the outfit together, I decided to accessorize with my favorite gold collar necklace from Jhajing and a vintage belt that I salvaged some years back from Mamita's closet. The overall effect is a casual but dressy outfit that I think is perfect for the dinner we had at Makati Shang.

Hope you like :)

Postura Project Day 28 - Dressing up The Muscle Shirt
