Bad Photo, Bad Hair Day, Great Thai Food.

Saturday, June 30, 2012

Some days, you just can't have it all and all you end up with are bad photos, awkward faces and a very bad hair day. :P

I have very thick, coarse hair which I have a bad habit of leaving it to grow out wild by itself...which ends up resembling a lion's mane...especially in blonde. I deserve a double facepalm for this booboo! Sad part, I only realized a few days ago how badly I needed to have it thinned out. Apparently, judging from these photos that were taken over two weeks ago, I needed to have it fixed probably two weeks prior to that day. Doing the math...which I equally suck at...I'm over a month delayed for much needed salon service. *sigh

I am obssesed with hair color but I can't really be bothered so much with haircuts. I have been letting myself gooooo these past few weeks. Probably due to exhaustion from all the major events that have been going on.

Makeover List:

  1. Haircut. obviously.
  2. Maybe another dye job? just because.
  3. Brow threading
  4. Mustache waxing :P
  5. Facial
The only thing I am looking forward to is the facial and dye job. I have not been in the mood for pain lately so I've been delaying my visit to the waxing salon but I cannot procrastinate any longer. Gawd, tiis ganda! :(

Anyway, will leave you with these photos. Try not to focus too much on the hair and face. I know it's hard, especially when I've made so much emphasis on the negative parts of it. Hopefully, you'll still find inspiration from the outfit :P

Seriously should've put on some sunglasses :/

So anyway...I wore this to a random lunch out with Dennis. It was traffic everywhere and all the malls were crowded so we decided to head towards Kapitolyo (where I used to live and still miss for the great food and company).

We were planning to look for Rub but couldn't find it so decided to go to Poco instead but after parking, we spottted "Thai Dara" beside it.

Dennis was feeling more Asian than Continental so we went there instead, Besides, Thai Dara has always been a favorite of ours as you can see in a review I did HERE.

I am happy to announce that they not only managed  to maintain their food quality, but their food actually got better.

The only thing I don't like about their branch in Kapitolyo is their tables and chairs....

They probably decided to go with basic stools and tables to match their "Bangkok Street Food" theme but they are terribly uncomfortable. Banged my knee several times trying to squeeze into my seat. So I hope they change that, even monobloc would be better. Other than that, I still love Thai Dara for their great food and awesome personalized service.

Mario Batali's Ligurian Pasta Recipe - Trenette with Pesto, Beans and Potatoes

Friday, June 29, 2012

This vegan pasta recipe used to be a huge favorite of mine when I was still a vegetarian. I haven't made this in awhile cause my family (N and D) are major carnivores. I've been trying to change that lately by taking over the kitchen once again. (D used to do the cooking --- which consisted of excellent and delicious cholesterol filled food, which I loved but have been getting constant headaches from lately :P)

This dish is great for people who want to eat healthy but are too lazy to slave away in the kitchen.

Ingredients:

  1. Potatoes, about 3 pieces cut into cubes.
  2. 1 small pack Green beans, trimmed
  3. 1 bottle Pesto
  4. Substitute 3/4 500gm Linguine pack for Trenette
  5. Salt

gourmet pesto, green beans and potatoes

Procedure:

  1. Boil a big pasta pot with salt water.
  2. Drop in potatoes, let cook. Set aside.
  3. Blanch green beans (about 4 minutes), remove and place in cold bath
  4. Cook linguine in same pot.
  5. Remove noodles, throw out water.
  6. Bring pot back to the flame, let dry.
  7. Dump in entire Pesto jar contents, heat for a few seconds, turn off flame.
  8. Put the cooked linguine, potatoes and green beans back in the pot with the pesto and toss.
  9. Serve with Parmesan on top if you like, (I don't, I like it plain withouth cheese).

Will feed about 5-6 hungry people.

Give this a try. It's delicious, even Dennis appreciated it...which is quite rare for him especially when it's an all-veggie dish.

Laura Mercier Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme Review

I've heard somewhere that eyebags and dark circles are somewhat hereditary. That, if someone from your family suffers from it, then it is more likely that you will too when you reach a certain age. That case is true with my family. My Mamita had her eyebags surgically removed before my parents wedding. Although hers weren't so dark, they were definitely puffy.

I have been suffering from eyebags eversince I was a teenager. I blame it on late nights and heavy partying. Having "the bad gene" in my family only agravated the problem + skincare wasn't really spoken about so much during my teenage-early 20's. Only "old people" used to fuss with creams and shit. Big mistake. My skin has suffered so much from sun exposure because of my earlier ignorance and I have been trying my best to make ammends for this earlier lack of protection once I hit my mid-twenties. The best advice I can give: "Prevention is still the best cure." Start your skin care routine and stick with it the moment you hit 20.

But in case you didn't, my second best advice: Invest in high quality skincare products. You definitely get what you pay for...most of the time. So before you break out that plastic, thank god for the internet, check on reviews like this one first! :P

Ok, let's get on with it, shall we?

I was given a pot of Laura Mercier's Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme last March. It comes in a plastic pot which is encased in Laura's signature metallic silver-ish cardboard box. Each pot contains 15gms worth of product. Pot is about 2"x2" in size. Again, huray for plastic pots because I'm clumsy and I tend to drop things often. However, since it's in a pot, you need to use a cotton bud to get product to prevent bacteria infestation. This is the sole reason why I would've preferred if it was in a tube instead. But again, not really a big deal and I'm sure you wouldn't mind either by the end of this review. Plus I gotta admit, the pot looks classier than a tube :P ....on second thought, I think it would be awesome if they made this in smaller amount handy tubes that you can carry around with you anytime. Why? Read on.

Laura Mercier Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme

I have tried MANY eye creams in the past and I continued using them just for the sake of having an eye cream included in my regimen. Even after months and months of usage, I still wasn't positive wether they were working or not. I was just too scared to forego them even for a month so I just kept slathering the product on.

With Laura Mercier's Eye Gel Creme the effects are imediately noticeable. After a few seconds of applying the product, you will notice that your eye area looks instantly brighter and you appear fresher and more awake. Late nights? Gone! Completely erased. Hangover? What hangover? I kid you not, this product works great.

Laura Mercier Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme

What makes it so amazing?

Laura Mercier had this formulated by her doctor for her own personal use. So you see, right from the start, quality was a priority and not mass production or profit. Like many of Laura Mercier's commercially available products, most of them were initially formulated for her own specific use or that of her personal clientele and only made public once ideal results were acheived.

Another ideal characteristic of this eye product is that it is in a gel form so it doesn't feel greasy or heavy when applied. It won't make you look like a boxer swathed in petroleum jelly before a fight either. It is water-based, therefore meaning that it is made out of smaller molecules --- meaning that it has the ability to penetrate better. Your skin will love this and totally absorb everything til the last drop. Plus it has a cooling effect as well which always gets plus points especially when you live in a tropical country like I do. Oh, and its also fragrance-free making it safe to use even for those with highly sensitive skin.

What exactly does it do and how do you apply it?

Laura Mercier's Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Cream is designed to brighten and perfect the eye area. It reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness (GUARANTEED). Just apply it like any other eye cream twice a day. Some people prefer to just apply it on their undereyes for day and entire eye area at night. I apply it all over. Twice a day. You can even apply it over make up any time of day. Since it's in a gel form, it doesn't cake. It just gives you the right amount of lift anytime you need it.

It is a lightweight gel that spreads easily so a little goes a looooong way:

Laura Mercier Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme

I also apply the leftovers from the cotton bud on my forehead and laugh lines since I find that this product also works really well on filling in fine lines. It's almost like "botox in a pot".

Laura Mercier Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme

You can purchase Laura Mercier's Tone Perfecting Eye Gel Creme in all Rustan's Department Stores and Laura Mercier Boutiques nationwide for P2,950.00

So, the big question....will I buy this again? Yes, most definitely. In fact, I already have a standby pot on reserve. Some of you may find this pricey but considering the amount of product and the quality you get, I think this is VERY REASONABLE. I haven't even gone halfway through my pot and I've had it for about 3 months already. IT REALLY WORKS. Even men should try it. Yes.. you guys suffer from the worst case of eyebags I've ever seen and there's no harm in being a little metro to please the ladies. ;)

But wait!!! There's more! Laura Mercier is having a 10%  SALE ON ALL PURCHASES in Rustan's Shangri-la starting today 'til Sunday! You also get a free consultation from their super adorable lead make-up artist, Qua! So now's your chance, head on over and try this for yourself, you won't be sorry.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray Review

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

How to keep your eye make-up on in hot and humid weather is no longer rocket science with Mario Badescu's Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater. If you suffer from an oily face or oily eyelids and have trouble keeping your eyeshadow or eyeliner on without smudging, you might want to read this article til the end.

Mario Badescu first opened his salon in New York in 1967 bringing in his vast knowledge of Old World skincare techniques with him. It was such a hit that his patrons started requesting for him to make his products available to them in their own homes...and the rest is history. Mario Badescu caters to hundreds of Hollywood celebrities, to name all will take me all week so here are some of the most notable  Hollywood A-list actresses who swear by Mario Badescu and his line of skin care products: Naomi Campbell, Ashley Judd, Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler and Jennifer Aniston.

Okay, now you have a brief history of the brand, let's get on with my review....

I could pretty much sum it up with a few words...I LOVE IT, IT WORKS, GO BUY IT.

But for the more inquisitive types, let's go in depth...

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rosewater

Packaging:

Mario Badescu's Facial Spray comes in a 118ml plastic spray bottle with a sticker label. Nothing special about it, probably as ordinary as they come. What I like about it being in a plastic bottle is that I don't have to worry about the clumsy me dropping it. Spray is fine works like any other spray, a fine mist spray would've been a whole lot better in my opinion.

Anyway, who really gives a f about packaging?

Let's get on with the Product Review:

Unlike Evian and most other facial mists/sprays, Mario Badescu's Facial Spray also sets your make-up...and like a charm I may add.

I don't really have oily skin but with the addtion of facial moisturizer and humid weather, my eyelids can get kinda greasy. I like putting on thick eyeliner, I often use Stila cake eyeliner, Maybelline eyeliner pen and Nars eyeliner. These brands have a reputation for being smudge free but probably due to the intense heat and humid weather, they still smudge and I'm left with dark circles and "eyeliner balls" :P (muta from eyeliner) inside the corners of my eyes. Yuck and embarassing.

I started using Mario Badescu to set my make up a few weeks ago and I've never had that same problem again no matter where I go or how hot it gets. Even my eyeshadow stays on all day til night with no need to retouch. I just spray it on my face immediately after putting on my make up and leave it to air dry while dressing up.

It also smells great, a big plus for anything you have to apply directly on your face.

Mario Badescu's Facial Spray is great for people who work in airconditioned rooms all day. It instantly rehydrates with just one spray, also great for Flight Attendants. My skin gets so dehydrated even after just short airplane trips.

Cons:

no cons for me on this one, sorry, I think it is one amazing product, something you can't live without once you've already tried it.

In A Nutshell:

  • helps keep make up on all day -check!
  • smells good - check!
  • rejuventaing - check!
  • an overall amazing product for people on the go
And wait, I saved the best for last! This product is very affordable and worth every penny! You can buy Mario Badescu's Facial Spray for only P445 in all Rustan's Department Stores.  So affordable right??? I know, I was surprised myself was expecting it to be in the P1000+bracket. All the more reason for you to drop by Rustan's and grab yourself a bottle of this wonder spray!

DIY/Tutorial - How To Turn Old Pants Into A Hi-Slit Maxi Skirt

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

The maxi skirt has always been a favorite of Hollywood A-listers due to the classy and effortless vibe they exude.

Vanessa Hudgens, Mary Kate Olsen and Lauren Conrad are some of the many Hollywood Celebrities spotted wearing maxi skirts along the streets of New York and LA numerous times.

Lately though, a slight alteration of the long beloved maxi trend has started to creep in...thigh hi-slits. Which I have to admit give a refreshing change to the old silhouette.

Adding a slit to the maxi lends a certain laidback sultriness to the look and I have been quite obssesed with it. Not too mention that the extra slit provides much needed air between my thighs in our warm and humid weather. They also look fantastic for petite women like me even when worn with flats. Plus they also make a great cover up for your bikini bottom at the beach!

Floral on Floral + Mermaid Hair

Halllooo there! How was your weekend? My Friday and Saturday was pretty hectic, attended Fete dela Musique with Pax, and our other friend Eden (chic in the tropics blog) who's here from Cebu to cover Miss World 2012. We happened upon Kookie (death by platforms blog) who happened to be partying at Time along Makati Ave. as well so that was pretty cool and unexpected. This all happened after my Kashieca X JC Buendia event which I blogged about HERE and dinner with Ana and Krissy at CPK, Greenbelt. A full day indeed.

So anyway, this is what I wore to the Kasheica event, later changed into denim shorts and boots for Fete.

outfit: top from Glamour Studio, shorts from Meg, Mikka Padua clutch, shoes from CMG, new hair by Miss Irma of L'oreal Academy

Thanks Tin for patiently taking my photos after the Kashieca event. And upon writing this entry, I just realized that this is the first clear debut of my "new hair" on the blog. What do you think? I got tired of the bleached blonde look and my hair has been suffering so much from all the abuse so I decided to go brunette again but with some blue/green highlights, which are sad to say, already beginning to fade. Still thinking of what to do next. I'm planning to grow my hair again since I originally wanted to have it digi-permed before it got botched up and I decided to bleach it but I don't know what to do between now and then, I'll just probably leave it alone.

On to other news, my baby shih tzu, Chewy is having her first heat and is PMS-ing real bad. I've had other dogs before but I never experienced this kind of thing with them before, It seems like she is really uncomfortable, whining, panting and keeping to herself and doesn't really wanna be touched. It's a little disconcerting and heartbreaking. Has anyone out there experienced the same thing with their dogs?

JC Buendia for Kashieca

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Kashieca's latest designer collaboration is with JC Buendia.

JC Buendia is probably best known for dressing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and President Noynoy as well as a number of different local celebrities. He is also a known advocate for  promoting indigineous fabrics and techniques such as Pina, beadwork and "burda" through his beautiful runway creations.

A handful of bloggers were invited to Kashieca's Greenbelt 5 branch for a chance to meet JC Buendia and shop his creations.

Despite his numerous accomplishments in the world of fashion, Mr. JC Buendia has managed to keep his feet on the ground. During our brief meeting,  I was really taken by how genuinely sweet, sincere and humble he seemed to be.

As I took a stroll around the store to view his collection, I couldn't help but be reminded of the "Factory Girl" era. A lot of the pieces featured in this designer collaboration have a vintage 60's feel worthy of Twiggy, from great-fitting hot pants (as photographed below) to loose fitting, semi crop tops featuring keyhole designs, this designer collaboration succesfully brings the cool "mod style" of the past back into the mainstream.

Probably one of my favorites from the entire collection is this LBD featuring a classic "shift-dress" cut with front and back sheer panels accented by sequins. A truly flattering, understated piece that is a must-have in every woman's closet.

This frog prince logo which JC Buendia chose to accentuate his line of multi-colored basic tees is also too cute to resist.

And here are some of his other dressier creations for the brand collab taken from the catalog which contauins numerous, versatile pieces that you can dress down for the office and later transform + accesorize for a night on the town.

So what did I take home with me from the collection? After much deliberation, I finally decided on two pairs of hot pants in black and beige. Their fit was just so fantastic that I had to get them in multiple colors.

During check out, I also spotted this "handgun necklace" below the counter and couln't resist not taking it home with me either.
