torch resto review/bloggers night out

Friday, November 30, 2012

My favorite kind of events are those that manage to incorporate the formality of it and yet allow us blog friends to mingle and hang as if it were just any ordinary day except everything is free. :)

Last week, Torch Resto gave us that opportunity by hosting a fun bloggers night at their Connecticut outlet:

The night started out with their signature appetizers:

potato string fries

lots of PKNT wine

Mushroom Bisque

And one of my personal faves,

Truffle Fries
The Mushroom Bisque and fries are both infused with Truffle oil which I cannot resist. One of my most favorite flavors on earth. Quickly devoured everything and deemed it time for a proper yosi break to let the starters down before more food arrives.

Stepped out for a bit with Ana who always is a darling and accompanies me even if she doesn't carry the nasty habit.

After a quick ten minute break, it was time for the rest of the food to arrive...

Gambas Pizza
To my amazement, Torch has one of the best pizzas around. The gambas pizza is a roll up type that you eat stuffed with arugula and alfalfa sprouts. A definite must try and great for sharing with friends.

Volcano Roll
Torch also serves modern takes on sushi. I believe they are original recipes developed solely for their menu. Both the Volcano Roll and Secret Sushi will leave a delicious lingering taste in your mouth that you will find yourself craving for days after.

Secret Sushi
And time for another yosi break with Shen, it's always fun when Shen's around and it's great to have someone call me out for a change. Was getting sooo full by this time, had to walk around a bit at the same time...

And then it was time for more food...depsite being filled to the brim, I could not resist this:

Torch Resto's Salpicao Medallion
This is orgasmic, no kidding. The beef is super tender and juicy. It's served on a hot tile which is great for people like me who are slow eaters, maybe just ask for them to serve it medium rare so it doesn't overcook while you eat.  The rice also deserves special mention because I don't know why, it just tastes really good and different despite it being just ordinary rice. You have to order this! It's fairly big though so I suggest you share with someone.

Also try the Steak Fondue which I don't have a photo of because everyone quickly devoured it a few moments after it was served. Seriously, it was that good.

Dessert was made up of these two scrumptious delights:
Panna Cota with Fresh Fruits
The Panna Cotta is perfect for people who don't enjoy super sweet dessserts. The cream base gives a good balance to the fresh fruit toppings and it has just the right amount of sweetness to get rid of your umay, it's also the perfect size.

On the other hand, those who prefer to indulge themselves a little bit more, like me, will fall head over heels in love with their frozen brazo. Still not overtly sweet but slightly richer with it's crumb base, custard and meringue topping, it is heaven in the mouth (no pun intended:) and writing about has me salivating all over again.

Frozen Brazo de Mercedes
After everything was served, it was time for the awardung ceremonies. I won best dressed which entitled me to 1 year's supply of free sushi! Yahoo, I couldn't be happier! :)

With the friends:

pax, me bestie, marj, earth, raleene and ana

In my humble opinion, I find that Torch resto is a fine dining establishment disguised in a casual dining atmosphere. The food is highly commendable and definitely worthy of a try and visit no matter how far away you live. And here's more reason to check them out:

For only P400, you get to drink as much wine as you want every Wedenesday!

And as a special treat for all my readers, just mention "Pizza-Sushi-Steak" to their waiter to receive this yummy Tequila Lime Chicken Skin Skewer totally free!

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for the super sweet birthday greetings on all the different social media sites, especially this. REALLLY overwhelming and I feel truly blessed. Wish I could give everyone a hug! There are so many things that I am thankful for this year. To sum it all up, it was one of the best years of my life. And it was topped off last night by walking the runway for glorietta vibe and given the chance to be part of fashion history. The experience was surreal. Can't wait to make kwento.

Anyway,

Because I'm celebrating my birthday today, let's do a post with "something red" para swerte next year. hahaha (G.I. na G.I.)

My latest red acquisitions are these espadrilles from Sueno. Slipping them on automatically put me in vacation mode.  They're perfect for a chill day of shopping and coffee. Just slip on a pair of cool sunglasses and your good to go!

And if you're thinking of getting a pair yourself, I suggest you do it this weekend at the St. James Bazaar. Sueno de Espadrilles is having a BUY 1 TAKE 1 promo on all shoes! That's like only P300-P600 per shoe?  Can't beat that! :)

fairydrops + k palette's 1 day tattoo lash perm mascara

I have been waiting for the arrival of these products with as much anticipation as a Harry Potter fan.

Eversince I got my hands on K Palette's 24 hour tattoo liners, I have not been able to put them down and I have been wishing since then for a mascara to arrive that will match the performance of my lasting 2-way eyebrow and tattoo liners.

A few days ago, my wish was granted when these babies arrived at my doorstep.

Introducing the latest additions to all Beauty Bar counters...

Say hello to one of Japan's most popular Mascara brands, Fairydrops and of course, the beloved K-Palette 1-Day Lash Perm Tattoo Mascara.

A little info on Fairydrops...

Fairydrops was born out of necessity. It's CEO and founder Aya Yasuda, used to be an anchorwoman of Major League Baseball on a local tv station in Los Angeles. Being born with Asian eyes, she longed for the big, photogenic eyes that her co-workers seemed to posses until one day, she realized that it was the long upward slopping eyelashes that made the difference.

This led her to months of research and experimentation with different brushes and formulas and eventually, the discovery and creation of the 3-teardrop wand which Fairydrops is now infamour for.

The 3-teardrop wand manages to catch and lift even the shortest of lashes!
Perfect for people like me who were born with a "lash deficiency" (lol, seriously, my lashes are so short, some professional MUA are afraid to curl them).

Fairydrops Pink Film Type Mascara

Fairydrops come in two variants, a pink film type and a purple waterproof mascara.

Based on my experience with the K-Palette tattoo liners, I find that the film type variant works just fine for my needs. It doesn't smudge even after an entire day of sweat, natural oils and spotlights on my face.

I am all for the film type type because it comes off completely with just soap and water. It leaves no residue whatsoever and it is this hassle-free reason plus the fact that it stays on no matter what is why I am totally in love with the product.

However, if you're iffy about taking chances or are planning to be in the water all day, then I suggest you go with the purple/waterproof. It's perfect for beach getaways.

Fairydrops Purple Waterproof Mascara

Anyway, it doesn't really matter which of the two you choose since the end product guarantees a flawless, clump-free application each and every time.

Moving on to K-Palette's 1 Day Tattoo Lash Perm Mascara.

K-Palette has earned a place in my heart as one of my top 3 most favorite make up brands.
The reason why I love K-Palette so much is because they manage to make dummy-proof products that apply flawlessly even for the most inexperienced user.

I am confident enough to say that their eyeliner is one of the best I've ever tried in the market and the same is true with their mascara. Like the eyeliner, it washes of completely with just soap and water which is a big plus for me because I hate rubbing my eye area with make up remover. (I heard somewhere that constant rubbing creates not only wrinkles but dark circles as well).

K-Palette's 1 Day Lash Perm is not only gentle on your skin but it also conditions your lashes while keeping the perm all day.

It doesn't clumo at all. And because it was created by Asians, the brush is a perfect fit for our eye shapes. The fine tip makes it possible to reach even the inner corner of our eyes and short lashes.

Bright eyes and beautifully upturned eyelashes take years of your face, do yourself a favor, head to Beauty Bar and try these new products out for yourself. I personally guarantee that you'll fall in love with them upon first application.
While you're at it, check out the K-Palette Tattoo Eyeliners, 2-Way Eyebrow and Okuna Concealer as well. These 3 will make your life a lot easier.

peplum bandwagon

Monday, November 26, 2012

I knew it would get to me sooner or later...

Actually, this neoprene and leather peplum top from Cotton On has been in my closet for quite some time already. I just never wore it out cause I find it a little too big on me. Didn't have anything to wear for the Zen Zest Diva Sing Off last Saturday so I decided to give it a go. It still feels a tad loose but I guess it's not so bad. That's the downside of being ultra-petite. I have such a hard time buying clothes, especially from western brands. Their smallest sizes are often times still loose on me.

ps. took up most of my self-control to not edit the last photo with a "happy holidays from fashioneggplant" text. Looks so festive noh? hahaha

It's fun to challenge yourself sometimes and see how many animal print articles you can get away with piling on all at the same time without looking like a tacky, old pimp. :P

Started with this new zebra necklace which was soon followed by the leopard print pants and finished off with these zebra cap toe pumps.

Can't chat much today, schedule is cramped. Gotta be in Res Toe Run Trinoma in a bit for the Shulong Yourshu event where my DIY shoes will be on display and me and fellow bloggers will be judging YourShu entries from different schools. Hope you can drop by. Will be there from 2pm-7pm. If you get a pair of Shulong's today, you can also have them designed for free by their resident artists. Pretty cool huh? Even for non-sneakerheads.
