instax mini 8 now in the philippines!

Friday, June 7, 2013

I attended the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 launch earlier this afternoon. I was one of the first people there because a) the event place was a block away from our house and b) I was super duper mega excited!

No matter how advanced and clever technology gets, I will always have a soft spot for the romantic feel of old-fashioned photography and snail mail. They have a way of capturing moments like no other and it just has so much nostalgia attached to it. (diba? :))

Anyway...

The event was held in C3 and it had an adorable Katy Perry "California Girls" inspired theme. There were balloons, giant lollipops, cupcakes and all sorts of other sweets scattered around the place giving it a really fun, saccharine and festive feel. One of its highlights was an area covered with booths, different goodies and a glitter tattoo station. Each station stamps our "instax passports" that were later on used as raffle stubs for the draw.

Another highlight of the afternoon were these really adorable Instax mascots who totally stole the show with their cute antics. They kept dancing around the place. Couldn't help but have my photo taken with them. The pink one was especially cheeky!

After a brief brand introduction, it was time to introduce the all new Instax Mini 8's!!!

The new Instax Mini 8's are smaller than their predecessors and boast improved picture quality via the "high key" mode with an aperture of another 2/3 stop up. The new feature produces beautifully bright and soft colors especially in low light, indoor conditions. It has a super artsy feel that I immediately fell in love with.

The Mini 8's also come in 5 colors to suit every personality. There's baby blue, pink, yellow, black and white.

Aside from launching the Instax Mini 8, the event was also held to introduce Fujifilm's newest brand ambassador. Fellow blogger, Kryz Uy! Catch her billboards all over the Metro especially around schools and universities. I think she truly captures the "Kawaii" feel of Instax don't you think?

The new Instax Mini 8 features a film size of 86mm x 54mm, picture size of 62mm x 46mm. Lens has 2 components, 2 elements, f-60mm, 1:12.7, real image finder, 1/60 sec shutter release, manual switching exposure control system, constant firing flsh (automatic light adjustment), auto power off after 5 minutes, exposure counter.

Dimensions & weight - 116mm x 118.3mm x 68.2mm /307g (without batteries, film and strap)
Power supply - 2 AAsize batteries

I was fortunate enough to be able to bring one home and I have been playing with it eversince. I'm not really what you would call a "techy person". I don't understand specs and stuff but all I know is that the Instax Mini 8 is very easy to use. It's practically idiot-proof and yet it takes wonderfully artsy photos. I was REALLY amazed at its performance in indoor low-light conditions. Conditions I have always had a hard time dealing with. The Instax makes it so simple with just one setting.

Here's the first photo I took and uploaded to instagram with no filter under poor light conditions. Quite impressive right? It's like instant instagram filter but waaaaaay better.
