sm kids fashion toonfest: barbie (nikola ootd)

Saturday, August 31, 2013

Of all our SM Kids Fashion Toonfest "Street Style" posts, this is Nikola's favorite. I can only suggest so far but this time, I had no say at all. When we got to the Barbie Fashions booth at the SM Store, Nikola took over and did the shopping herself.

She clutched on to this pink layered tunic as if it was the last one in stock and made sure it was in our cart upon check out.

Her outfit today is inspired by one of her Nickelodeon idols, Victoria Justice. She paired her pink layered tunic from Barbie fashion with comfy jeggings and gray ballet flats, also from SM Kids Fashion for a laidback, Hollywood, L.A. vibe.

lifeproof fre now in philippines

We spend so much on our cell phones, tablets and other handheld gadgets nowadays that I think it only makes sense to invest in a good case as well. You don't want all that money going to waste just because of a 5 second bout of clumsiness.

And if you're going to put the money into it, why not pick up a case that isn't only shock/drop proof but waterproof, dirt proof and while we're at it, snow proof as well?

mens fashion - too much, too little?

Friday, August 30, 2013

When it comes to fashion, I am all about pushing the limit, experimenting and thinking out of the box. However, when it comes to mens footwear, my preferences lean towards the conservative. I prefer shoes that are well structured, semi-traditional and with an air of dignity surrounding it.

Personally, I think Italian men have it all figured out.

A good example of shoes that are still in-trend and fashion forward without being too flashy are these Lacoste shoes from Stand Out Net. They epitomise the perfect marriage between tasteful old money and nouveau sensiblities by keeping their structure and designs more or less traditional but with the addition of unexpected colors and tweaks here and there.

When it comes down to it, I think men should never compromise looking sensible for appearing fashion forward, country club chic always wins. What do you think?

flight 001 shangrila opening

I attended one of the most memorable events I have ever been to a few days ago. The opening of Flight 001 in Shangrila Plaza. Their 3rd and biggest store so far in the Philippines.

They took things to the next level by creating a sort of live "Catch Me If You Can"/vintage Pan-Am vibe complete with models dressed as flight attendants and a musical crew care of Repertory Philippines singing about travel and adventure.

flight 001 store opening shangrila plaza
flight 001 store launch philippines
But most memorable of all, even more than the mini broadway presentation, was the uber neat 2 week suitcase packed by Flight 001 co-founder John Sencion using their unique Spacepak system. There was actually an audible gasp from the guests when he managed to fit 14 shirts and 7 pairs of grown man pants effortlessly into this tiny bag.

Flight 001's Spacepak System makes rolling socks and stuffing whatevers into shoes a thing of the past. It also cuts packing time in half plus the convenience of having everything organized and color coded gives you peace of mind that no amount of money can buy. No more embrassing situations wherein your rolled underwear falls from the overhead cabin while you're trying to grab something else from your bag.

The store itself resembles the inside of a 747 Jet fuselage. Luggage is displayed according to color and they stock every travel oriented item you can imagine. From padlocks, luggage tags, chargers, gadget cases, wallets, passport holders, you name it, they have it and in coordinating colors and prints as well. Makes looking for your things on the go a lot easier.

watches: look for less

It has always been a dream of mine to collect watches but it's almost impossible unless you were born with LOTS of money, and I mean lots. Some of my dream watches cost upwards of 4 million pesos. It may seem sinful but if you have the extra to spend, why not?

In another life I would love to have wooden watch boxes lined with expensive velvet and filled with timepieces by Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Bulgari, Cartier, Rolex, Movado, Panerai, IWC, Baume & Mercier, Bell & Ross, U-Boat and many many more.

In this life, my only consolation is that I was born resourceful. I have a knack for finding pieces that have the same look but cost way, way less. Here's what I mean. Alternatives for some of fashion's most coveted timepieces...
Chanel's Cermaic Bracelet Watch
An original costs about $4,000 while these similar one only have a price tag of around $80.
Same goes for this Tag Heuer, Movado and Patek Philippe doppelgangers.

But you know more than the label, what I really appreciate are the details that go into a watch. The way they are able to diversify something so tiny and basic into so many different looks. Here's a few others I fancy for their own unique characteristics.

juicing with superfoods

I have been obssesed with the idea of juicing for awhile now but the more I learn about it, the more I realize that it is not as simple as throwing veggies together in a blender.

I was initially planning on getting a typical appliance store juicer, the ones that go for around P4k-P8K but after research, I found out that they weren't really cut out for the job I wanted  which is maintain the level of enzymes (is my terminology correct?), get the most out of my fruits and veggies plus keep a strong flavor with a rich texture. I apparently have to spend way more, around the ball park of P15K which is why I have been googling more about natural remedies to make the most out my purchase. This is when I came across Indigo Herbs and the term Superfoods.

I'm curious, has anyone tried this? Is it okay to mix these organic powders in with my fruits and veggies? Do they taste alright? Their health benefits look really promising and I would really like to try it out but I want more advice from someone who has actually tried them first hand.

I am not a runner. Nope. Most definitely not. You can probably gauge my best distance at 2 blocks. Halfway there, my legs already start to feel as if they're made of jelly which results in ridiculous panting + side-clutching "I'm so out of shape" sharp pains...

But earlier today, I registered for a formal "run" for the first time ever in my life and I am actually pretty excited for it! What made me change my mind and want to DO MORE?

Aside from it being an afternoon spent with some of our country's finest athletes and runners, a big part of it is Rexona's twist for this year's run.

Butterfly Twists. A shoe brand created sepcifically for the convenience and comfort of stylish women.

Would you believe me if I said that one of the most famous foldable shoe brands in the world is run by four men???

It's true, in fact, one of their founders, Mark Quaradeghini, was even present yesterday at their Fall Winter 2013 collection held at the Straight-Up Bar of Seda Hotel in the Fort.

Apparently, the brand was born out of a lost bet wherein one of its founders was forced to attend a party in 6 inch stilletos. No wonder he came up with the idea! And really, thank god for foldable flats. I would be lost without them now.

What's even better is that these flats, which used to be solely relegated to "after-heels" footwear, is now made sturdy enough to wear out on a whole day walking affair while still mainatining the same style, comfort and convenience that made them popular the world over.
