ootd: urban tropicals

Summer is officially here judging from the weather we've been having lately. If it gets warmer I'll have to resort to bikini top ootd's...ahhh the horror! hahaha, just kidding. But it really is getting too hot to the point that it gives me migraines sometimes. Dressing up is always a bit tricky in the summer unless you have a smoking hot body and washboard abs (which I do not) so I usually result to shorts and loose camis to keep me cool.

This ruffle hem/flute (whatever you call it) skirt was actually a superb find at one of the bazaars I visited recently. I got it for only P300 from @stylecode and it's a actually a pair of skorts which is even better for petites like me because it means that we can wear it shorter! Shorter, particularly mid-thigh always look better on my not-so-long legs. :P

Always photo heavy when it's a Uniqlo post. It's hard to pick which ones to leave out especially this Spring/Summer 2014 with genius collaborations from Pharell, SPRZ NY, and Ines De La Fressange.

"The New Model T"

Renowned musician and music producer, Pharell Williams puts his spin on the UT Spring Summer 2014 collection with his "I am Other" creative collective.

Revisions have been made to the body of the new model t shirts themselves, with a carefully selected assortment of graphics. Under the stern eye of street fashion icon NIGO (Bape), recently hired as creative director, the 2014 Spring Summer collection will comprise approximately 35 themes, including 18 new collaborations, with more than 1,200 colors and patterns for men, women, and kids.

globe charge - everyone can now accept credit card payments!

Saturday, March 29, 2014

Great news for online shops, budding entrepreneurs and small business owners. You can now receive credit card payments without having to apply for your own terminal at a bank.

Thanks to the new Globe Charge you can triple your earnings (or more) by providing more payment options for your clients.

Unlike traditional credit card terminals which take months to process and are even more difficult to get approved for, all it takes to have your own Globe Charge terminal is a one time payment of P999 for the Globe Charge Mobile Card Reader.

Once you have it, it's just a matter of downloading the FREE Globe Charge Mobile App from the AppStore or Google Play, register a merchant account and you're good to go.

At a press conference held last March 27, 2014, I personally got to try the new Globe Charge along with other members of the media. We were all given temporary credit/debit cards that we could use to shop the Beyond The Box pop-up store that was set up there.

the body shop best face forward (bff in-store makeover service)

Summer season also means, prom, graduation and lots of weddings.

Getting made up at a salon for that special occasion can sometimes cost you an arm and a leg...right??? What's usually the minimum they charge you? Around P1500? Am I right? And this is just at a regular salon, up-markets can go as high as P6000.

P6000! For one night! And it washes right off!

Another thing I don't particularly like about getting made up in some salons is that I end up looking totally like somebody else...plus you don't really know where those products have been or what they have touched. It's not uncommon to get massive breakouts afterwards.

All that being said, what if I tell you that you can get a beautiful total makeover for just P1500 using new products which you get to take home afterwards?

Yup!

BFF (Best Face Forward) is The Body Shop's latest promo this season.

For only P1,500 you get a free full make-up service + P1000 worth of products that you get to take home afterwards!

I tried it a couple of days ago at their Megamall branch...I opted for the "Bronze Fresh Faced" look being summer and all...here's how it went:

body shop best face forward
body shop makeover service
body shop bff
  1. Apply foundation primer followed by foundation mixed with BB cream all over face including lips (so lipstick lasts longer)
  2. Use concealer on eyes and other areas needed followed by highlighter on apples of cheeks and bridge of nose
  3. Powder entire face with brush
  4. Do your eyebrows
  5. Contour with bronzer on the hollow of your cheek and sides of nose, blend
  6. Apply eyeshadow (we used bronze shades), followed by eyeliner (wet for top, pencil for bottom), curl lashes follow with lengthening mascara
  7. Blush an apple of cheeks
  8. Lipstick then gloss

And voila!

I must say, I really, really liked it. Felt so glam and sexy afterwards. To think I'm the type of person who doesn't like getting their make-up done by other people! This was one of the best make-up jobs I have ever been on the receiving end of.

the body shop best face forward
Even if it was obvious that my make-up artist's peg was herself :P Hahaha, diba? We looked like twins afterwards!

But seriously, I super loved what she did. Just enough coverage, nothing too heavy.

I shall make it a point to keep her number for my future wedding ;)

The Different Types of Pearls Used in Jewelry

Every woman should own a stunning and timeless piece of pearl jewelry, according to The Pearl Source; and they’re not the only ones to think that. The pearl has long been considered a symbol of simple perfect. In fact, before pearls where cultured, the natural pearl was so expensive and rare that only the very rich and noble were able to obtain hem. Now-a-days pearls are more readily available and come in various sizes, types and colors. Merely visiting www.thepearlsource.com will give you a good idea on all the different types of pearl jewelry that is available.

Types of Pearls
Natural - Often found throughout the Persian Gulf, the natural pearl is extremely rare and -- unfortunately -- has been over harvested making them difficult -- if not impossible -- to find in nature. Some small, natural pearls exist but obtaining them is costly.

Cultured - As the name suggests, cultured pearls are grown on a farm that raises mollusk and implants them with the mother-of-pearl bead nucleus. Unfortunately, not every mollusk will develop a pearl, and even if they do, not all pearls are of good quality.

Saltwater - Saltwater pearls include Akoya cultured pearls, South Sea pearls and Tahitian pearls. Akoya cultured pearls are grown in Chinese and Japanese waters. These round-shaped pearls are typically cream or white in color and range in size from about 2mm up to about 10mm. The South Sea pearls come from Indonesia, Australia and the Philippines, and are the largest pearls, measuring about 9mm to 20mm with a white, golden or cream color. Tahitian pearls are actually not just from Tahiti, and grow in various islands of the French Polynesia. They range in both size and color, from about 8mm to 16mm in black, green, purple and blue hues.

Freshwater - Cultivated predominately in China, these pearls grow in freshwater rives, ponds and lakes. Freshwater pearls are most commonly white and look similar to Akoya cultured pearls, but can still grow in various sizes, shapes and pastel colors. Freshwater pearls usually don’t have the bead nucleus, which means the resulting pearl has a thicker nacre.

Imitation - Typically made from a coated glass bead, imitation pearls are cheaper than real pearls and lack the depth of luster that can be found on cultured pearls. While imitation pearls may fool most consumers, highly trained jewelers can easily spot an imitation pearl from a natural or cultured pearl.

Friday, March 28, 2014

I received an invite last week for a Pat Santos fashion show at SM BF with a chance to take home a dress specially for me.

I was really excited being a big fan of Pat Santos and all...he is the genius behind some of my favorite brands from SM Ladies Fashion: Blanc Et Noir, Philosophy, etc. so I made it a point to dress from head to legs (? :P) entirely in Pat Santos.

Before I could head towards the South, I needed to attend the McCormick Festival of Food event at Greenbelt first and from there, I was supposed to take a cab to Paranaque with Ana...and that's where the nightmare started.

Never really a big fan of public transportation in our country, I was slowly starting to change my mind about it but the scenarios I have been experiencing these past weeks is slowly taking me back to square one.

For an hour or so, we travelled the entire Glorietta + Greenbelt compound trying to hail a taxi. No luck. They wouldn't let us ride, I was so infuriated. It got so late that there was no point trying to head towards BF anymore.

The point is, I missed the show and a chance to meet the designer because of failed public transportation. It hasn't been much easier lately as well, you'd think it was the Christmas season already. Stress. Good thing I was in super comfortable flats.

So anyway, here's my wasted (;() Pat Santos outfit:
