ootd: look like a million bucks

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Hopefully, the title of my blog post doesn't sound too conceited. It's just the theme of everything I'm wearing. Getting a designer inspired look for very, very little.

Let's start from top to bottom.

Vintage-inspired Romwe floppy hat which I got for roughly P800/$18 (see HERE). A great buy cause it retains it's shape even after squeezing it into a backpack full of clothes.

Next up, sunglasses. I don't really like to skimp on eyewear since they're protective as well and that's quite important especially when you're on the beach. This pair from Nick Automatic cost me less than a thousand but still provides quality UV protection.

Lingerie inspired dress from Miss Selfridge. This is actually part of a 2-piece set. It comes with a sheer white blouse to wear under. I got it on sale for P1200, the fabric is great (silk-like) in a luxurious bias-cut plus the over-all effect with the shirt in reminds me of Julie Delpy's outfit in Before Sunrise. Couldn't resist and they go so well with my next item...

Birkenstock-like sandals which were a gift from Ana. Birks are so hot right now that most brands have their own interpretations. Some are ridiculously priced (and ridiculously looking as well), but these ones from Carvil, I love. They are just basic which is good and always translates to timeless plus they cost less than a thousand!

Bag - Mango Touch but looks A. Wang-ish don't you think? ;)

And last, my favorite of all, is my new Voyager watch by Veloci Time in Navy Blue.
Looks fantastic against black and stunning when piled against my Pandora bracelets.
Even better? The price tag. This gorgeous divers watch with Japanese mechanism and 2 extra straps only retails for 3K+!

They say a watch can make or break a person's outfit.
This one's sure to compliment all your summer ootd's wether you're a guy or a girl. The nautical look will go so well with monochrome, stripes or bright primary colors.

If you're in the market for something a little more fun and sporty, check out the new digital collection by Veloci Time in Pulse and Metro which retail for only 1K+. Yes, you read that right.

They look awesome against bare skin, bikinis and board shorts! Very, very cute.

And lastly, another favorite of mine are the new gold tone Voyagers which carry the same price tag as the silver ones. Now you don't have to shell out half your savings for a classy-looking gold watch.

century tuna superbods 2014 boracay (john lloyd unveil + awarding ceremonies)

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

I was at Boracay last weekend for the Century Tuna Superbods Challenege Awarding Ceremonies.

It was a 2-day affair with the first day being the last leg of the challenge where contestants had to participate in a race that was peppered with different types of games styled to test their various skills and strengths, both mental and physical.

The whole experience of spending an entire weekend amongst these Superbods was humbling, eye-opening, sometimes embarrassing and inspiring at the same time. They were all cut like Greek god (and goddess) statues and despite my petite frame, I could not help but feel conscious about all my little folds.

It certainly brought to mind what Century Superbods nutritionist, Nadine Tengco mentioned during the press launch several weeks ago...that "abs are made in the kitchen".

Judging from the participants and their strict Century Tuna diet, I would have to unanimously agree with her.

Despite my bone-crushing crossfit sessions, my tummy is still cute, soft and round (Ha! :P) and I'm guessing that is because of all the rice, butter and chocolate that I include in my diet. When I flex I can feel that is it quite firm underneath all the flab but the flab is what I seem to not be able to get rid off. Now I'm pretty sure I know why. :S

So anyway, back to the Superbods...

What I found truly inspiring is that all of the participants were unique and belonged to different age groups and body types...some used to be overweight and one of them was even in their 30s (I can relate). It proves that anybody can have the body they desire as long as they back it up with discipline and dedication. (where can I buy that ba?)

The awarding ceremonies started with a smoldering hot dance (and flex) number where the Superbods put their svelte figures on display for all of us to oggle:

century superbods boracay
As if that wasn't enough sexiness for one night, Joey Mead struts out in a stunning tangerine number (that left little to the imagination) which did wonders for her still amazing body:

After a couple of behind the scenes videos, it was time to announce the special awards for congeniality, people's choice, transformation, photogenic and race winners:
  • Beach Bodies: Laurens Tolenaars and Paula Marciano
  • People’s Choice: Diane Tan and Mauro Lumba
  • Congeniality: Marneil Lim and Grace Murillo
  • Transformation Award – Miguel Lasala and Darlene Anderson
  • Superbod Race Winners: Miguel Lasala and Paula Marciano
  • Photogenic: Miguel Lasala and Alaiza Malinao.

Miguel Lasala bagged most of the awards which made me think he was a shoo-in for the title but I had to wait a little while before my guess could be confirmed.
In the meantime, it was time to be entertained by (the cheeky men) Sam YG, Toni Tony, and Slick Rick of Boys Night Out who also participated in the 42-day diet plan and were there to show us their new physiques which were notably trimmer than before. Slick's was particularly impressive.

After some laughs, it was time for the big reveal and the moment everyone had been waiting for...
John Lloyd Cruz and his new body. Who better to introduce him than the original Superbod, Anne Curtis:

(Let me just say that JL is 10x cuter and more charming in person)

Here's a full video of John Lloyd at Superbods Boracay so you can watch his totally adorable semi-striptease for yourselves:

Despite just being on the Superbod diet plan for over a month, he was notably slimmer and trimmer. His skin was also glowing.

john lloyd, anne curtis at century tuna superbods boracay
One thing JL and the BNO boys had in common was that they plan to stick to their new healthy lifestyles given the positive multiple benefits they have already experienced.

The night was getting hotter by the moment and the crowd could not contain their excitement much longer, it was time to announce the new Superbods for 2014.

To my surprise, Miguel was not one of them.

2nd place went to my personal favorite hottie, Laurens Tolenaars and his partner, Catherine Almirante.
1st place:  Marneil Lim and Alaiza Malinao.

And the new Century Superbods for 2014 are former child star, Sara Polverini and Mauro Lumba!

Needless to say, after being surrounded by all those sexy bodies and success stories, I plan on taking the 6 week challenge myself. :P

pastel realizations

Monday, April 28, 2014

Just got back from an exciting weekend, full of sexy bodies at Boracay for the Century Tuna Superbods Challenge with Anne Curtis, The BNO Boys and John Lloyd who was super adorable during his unveiling. I will share all that ASAP with you guys, just editing some of the videos I shot so you get the full experience of being there (hopefully ;).

In the meantime, here's an outfit I wore several days ago. I wouldn't dream of wearing a sweater except at the East Wing of Shangri-la Mall which still gets a bit chilly despite the sweltering temperatures outside.

Despite it being the peak of summer, I still can't stop wearing light sweaters and black. Force of habit which I sometimes suffer for with buckets of sweat. I'm trying to change that by embracing pastels..(pero sweater naman?! haha). I saw these crop sweaters in Zara for just P745 so I've been hoarding for when the weather begins to cool down.

Going for the boxy look here...

...which often makes me wish of being a few inches taller and flatter (in the chest area) :P

diy: large cup bikinis for petite frames (how to alter swimsuits)

Sunday, April 27, 2014

It's hard to find a swimsuit that fits when your cup size is upwards of a C and you have a small back. I am petite. My bottoms are usually a size XS but I need my tops to be at least  Large to make the cups fit. My back only measures 32 inches so I am usually left with a lot of excess fabric.

It's lucky if you find a self-tying top but in my case, those are rare and few and a lot of them come in matronly designs. I want a fun bikini to frolick around in under the sun. We all deserve fun bikinis!

As they say, necessity is the mother of invention.

I have been applying this technique to all my swimsuits for quite some time now but in case some of you have the same problem, here's a quick tutorial that may save you a lot of frustrated tears.

First of all, let's help you narrow down your fitting time and only pay attention to tops that will work.

From experience, bikini tops that are in a halter, bandeau or twisted style always work best with cup sizes that are D or bigger. They offer enough support and coverage. Oh, and straps are your best friend, better if they're the removable type so you can switch from halter to spags in case they start cutting into your skin after awhile because of the weight they're trying to support. Sunburn + chaffing is painful.

Next, where to go.

In Manila, I am usually able to find a nice selection of separates in Roxy, Cotton On, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, Debenhams and Swim (Rockwell, although I haven't been in awhile).

My latest acquisition is this "Oil Slick" bikini by Lara Bingle from Cotton On. It's spot on trend being made of neoprene plus it was super affordable at just P799/pc.

I got an XS bottom and a Large top that was too loose for me but the cups fit and that's what's important. Now time for some DIY magic to make it look just my size.

detangling hair extensions at hairshaft salon + aftercare

Saturday, April 26, 2014

I've learned the hard way that permanent hair extensions are something you don't take for granted.

I am not much of a "hair-brusher". Growing up, I used to get into trouble a lot  for leaving the house without running a brush through my hair. My grandma hated it and would often reprimand me. Now that I'm older, sadly, my habits haven't changed much. I don't really enjoy brushing or blow-drying. It was fine when I still had all natural hair but after I got hair extensions, I realized that two months without careful brushing can be a bit of a painful problem.

The first couple of weeks were fine. And then there was the 7107 Music Festival where me and my equally not a fan of brushing room-mate Ana failed to pack hairbrushes. We spent the entire weekend in Pampanga without brushing our hair after bath. Soon after was the Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival in Puerto Galera, the saltwater plus daily scalp massages by the beach finally took a toll on my hair extensions. By the time I got back to Manila, they were extremely tangled and matted. Similar to dread locks and not unlike you're regular shih tzu's matted hair.

I planned on having it detangled but my busy schedule did not permit a day at the salon so I kept it that way for several more weeks. Yes, it got worse.

pizza hut stuffed pan pizza review

Friday, April 25, 2014

Sometimes, commercials do work.

The moment I saw them break apart the warm crust on YouTube and caught a glimpse of the generous amount of cream cheese stuffed inside the pizza, I was salivating. When Manny Pacquiao bit into it backwards and said "Isa Pa!", I was on the phone dialling 911-11-11.

Pizza Hut's new Stuffed Pan Pizza is all it promises to be.

It's like ordering two pizzas in one and it is notably heavier than the regular pan pizza. A couple of slices were enough to satiate my hunger but not my greed. The combination of the soft, mild cream cheese against the zesty barbecue chicken enveloped in a crunchy crust was just too hard to resist.

The traditional "center" of the pizza and the stuffed portion are two whole different experiences which nicely compliment each other...who would've thought?

I wouldn't really consider the stuffing traditional Italian, it reminded me a bit of Chicken ala King which has always been a big favorite of mine since childhood. All that time, I never imagined that the distinct flavor of pineapple combined with mozzarella and cream cheese would go so well together.

The contrast between these flavors make you bite into it again and again. Before you know it, you've already had 4 slices. (oops!)

Seriously, how can you resist that?

I love how my stuffed pan pizza looked exactly the same as the one in the advertisement. It's decadent, delicious and scrumptious. No cutting corners here, just pure indulgence.

Mmmm, salivating again just talking about it so I'll stop.

Get your fix, you know what to dial...911-11-11. Get it hot, Get it fast. Pizza Hut sure knows how to #MakeItGreat.

kim jones for neutrogena

The Neutrogena® woman is naturally beautiful, optimistic and upbeat.

These are the exact same qualities that the brand saw in Filipino-British blogger, model, surfer and tv host, Kim Jones. It was a perfect match which is why they chose her to be the newest face of Neutrogena.

Being a long-time user of the brand, Kim couldn't be happier with the opportunity.

According to her: “I tape long hours so you can imagine the touch-ups. It really takes a toll on my skin,” she said.

To keep her skin healthy, Jones shared that she uses Neutrogena® Deep Clean™ Cleanser to keep herself hydrated. On work-free days, the bubbly social media celebrity also likes to keep it relatively make-up free.

“What I love about Neutrogena® is that it’s very simple, and it’s really beneficial for your skin. But it should be a complement to more important skincare habits like drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated,” she said.

Sun protection is also essential to Jones, as she has been regularly spotted surfing with her fiancĂ©, actor Jericho Rosales.

“Applying sun screen is really a big part of my skincare regimen,” she added. “Other than that, I do the normal things like cleansing, toning and moisturizing. I’m very minimal. I try to keep my skin sort of exposed so it can breathe.”

For women who aspire for beautifully healthy skin, Kim advises a balance between finding the right skincare brand and living a healthy lifestyle. “Skincare is so important but that’s not all of it. Beauty really does come from within. It will resonate from your personality, your level of fitness, your health, and even your eating habits. All those should be part of your overall beauty regimen.”

As part of Neutrogena®’s campaign for beautifully healthy skin, Jones is featured in three online videos debunking common beauty myths.

snugg ipad mini executive case review

With so many iPad cases available in the market today, how do you select which one is best for you? Does your decision rely purely on design or function? It's rare that these two come hand in hand in a single case but with the Snugg, it does:

snugg ipad mini case
I got my iPad Mini Snugg case in a denim cover because I plan to perform some DIY magic on it in the future. I think it would look great with some graffiti on, don't you think?

It's made with real denim so I'm pretty sure fabric pens would work perfectly on it. I'm going for the old school high school look of the 90s  ;)

denim ipad case
Aside from looking and feeling good in my hands, the Snugg lives up to its name...that is of being snug. My iPad Mini has never felt safer or more secure in a case before. I love that it's padded and protected while at the same time lightweight. Unlike other similar style cases, my Snugg hardly weighs a thing and in my book, that's pretty important because being lightweight signifies the majority of an iPad's hefty price tag. It would be a shame not to be able to enjoy that perk because of a case that weighs you down.

Snugg also promises fine craftsmanship with a lifetime guarantee on all of their cases.

snugg ipad mini case review
It has holders for business cards, credit cards, notes, a stylus or a pen (if you're old fashioned like me). I use my iPad for work so it's really nice to have these things handy while I check my mail and other important matters. It makes cross-checking and remembering things a lot easier and convenient especially for people like me who still mix paper with technology.

snugg executive case review
The Snugg also comes with a garterized holder which makes taking photos easier despite having a cover.
And did I mention that, the flap closes automatically with some sort of magnet which also locks your iPad at the same time without having to do it manually? It does.

snugg ipad mini case

Overall, I love my Snugg and would give it a 5 star rating. I think it's great that it has all of these conveniences in a finely made and stylish case that hardly weighs a thing.

ootd: look like a million bucks

This gorgeous divers watch with Japanese mechanism and 2 extra straps only retails for 3K+!

century tuna superbods 2014 boracay (john lloyd unveil + awarding ceremonies)

All those should be part of your overall beauty regimen.”

snugg ipad mini executive case review

It does.

Overall, I love my Snugg and would give it a 5 star rating. I think it's great that it has all of these conveniences in a finely made and stylish case that hardly weighs a thing.
