you're so classic

Friday, January 30, 2015

I will always be a fan of the crisp white shirt + jeans combo. There's something about it that's unbeatably fresh and timeless.

To avoid things looking predictable, play with silhouettes and details in your accessories.

Instead of a classic tailored shirt, I opted for this slouchy version from SFERA which I recently got on sale for just P999 from P1999! What is steal?

To add more interest, also paired it with 3 layered gold necklaces and studded gold loafers from Jeffrey Campbell that I got during my recent shopping trip at the SM Shoe City sale (see here). And to round it off, my favorite gold-rimmed + tortoise shell Clubmasters from Ray-Ban.

pantene 3 minute miracle conditioner review + free samples

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Frizz. Every woman's nightmare.

To combat frizz, you need a conditioner that can flatten and smoothen the outer layer (or the cuticle cells) of your hair's surface for a silky and shiny look.

That's exactly what Pantene's new 3 Minute Miracle Hair Conditioner does.

get ready with me: quick and easy idiot-proof hair and make up in less than 5 minutes!

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Hi Guys! So, I just realized that it's actually kinda fun doing videos. I'm currently obsessed with editing and stuff. It's a nice change for me after 5 years of doing the same thing. This feels fresh and makes me feel rejuvenated so I hope you don't mind the slight change in platform. It's just once in awhile. :)

So anyway, been watching a lot of "Get Ready With Me" videos on YouTube but I noticed that most only tackle make-up for dressier occasions or days when you have lots of time to waste on primping so I decided to make my own featuring my super quick and easy daily go-to routine for when I only have about 5 minutes to get ready.

bifesta cleansing lotion/makeup remover review and demo

Monday, January 26, 2015

Bifesta Cleansing Lotion is a Make-up Remover, Toner and Moisturizer in one that doesn't need to be rinsed.

Meaning, when you come home from the club at the wee hours of the morning with a full face of pancake thick make-up on, you can just wipe everything off with this and skip the rest of your beauty regimen without feeling guilty or suffering from it the next day!

Awesome stuff is awesome.

Bifesta Cleansing lotion retails for about P400+ and is available in different variants for all skin types. There's one for oily skin, anti-aging etc.

This one I have is the "BRIGHT UP" variant which removes dead skin cells for brighter, even-toned skin.

white on white ensemble = top picks + topics

Sunday, January 25, 2015

Happy Sunday folks!
Here's a simple outfit that most body types can pull off. It's comfortable, affordable yet still chic and bang on trend.

Minimalism will always be one of my favorite looks. Pretty timeless since there's not much really to criticize?! Unless maybe you encounter a color fanatic? But ten years from now, when you look back at old photos, you're still most probably gonna look decent.

Breaking down the outfit:

Not counting the bag, this entire head to toe ensemble cost me only 2k!
top - don't exactly remember how much cause I got it sometime ago at SM Dept Store but guaranteed not more than P500.
white boyfriend jeans - bought on sale at American Eagle for P1200
mandals - P500 at SM Parisian

Total cost of this look: Roughly around P2200/$50 or less.

And lastly, sorry if the photos are a bit pixelated today, had to crop crop crop! :P

where to buy cheap designer handbags

Friday, January 23, 2015

Designer Bags are a girls best friend next to diamonds. Even if I am a self-confessed "shoeholic", I would still rather invest more money on a bag rather than a pair of shoes for the simple reason that they last longer and if I tire of them, I can still pretty much sell them for a premium as long as they're still in good condition.

I'm not even going to try and justify the reasons behind spending several month's salaries worth on something that just functions as a hold-all and arm candy. If you're not into it, you just wouldn't understand. Men especially. It's just a secret among like-minded women. :P

If it's your first time to purchase and you're trying to justify it as an investment, sorry to burst your bubble but no, that ship has gone and sailed unless you have a trained eye to spot the "next big thing". Case in point: the Celine luggage series which has almost doubled in price since its first release.

But investing in designer bags as something to re-sell takes all the fun out of owning one unless you do it "professionally". If you're looking to fetch a premium price later on, you need to be extra careful of scratches, discolorations and the like.

I can't imagine going out daily and having to worry about where I set my bag.

They're pricey but they're there to use, abuse and love which is why it it most important to be 100% in love with it before you make your big purchase,

Having said all that, here's how you can score a good deal on a designer bag.

how to wear a coat in the tropics

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

Coats are a wonderful thing. They slim you down and make you feel all snuggly and secure. The only thing about coats is that they weren't exactly created for tropical weather.

I wouldn't suggest doing this in the heat of the summer unless you switch things around with a long, flimsy kimono but right now, with the cold winds of Siberia still coming in, you can actually get away with the look without sweating buckets.

The key is to finding a cut you like in a lightweight material with no lining.

Truth is, it's just like an elongated blazer. Everyone wears blazers right? So don't be afraid to try this longer version.

To further keep yourself cool, wear something breezy inside like a sleeveless cami (those with back slits are a plus! :P) and pair with shorts, skorts or a mini skirt.

I get cold easily so I can even wear mine with pants when I go to the mall, especially the chillier ones like the new wing of Shangrila.

my papal visit experience (the good and bad)

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

I am not the most religious person you will ever meet. I grew up in an all-girls Catholic school and went to mass every Sunday with my family but it always felt like a chore. It was so rigid and rule-oriented. Don't do this, don't do that. Strict teachings and a strict upbringing. I found mass boring and the homilies 98% of the time, uninspiring. It felt and sounded to me like a routine with the priests merely going through the motions. We were asked to live our lives as saints and yet I would hear all these stories about priests abusing children left and right. I also met a lot of "devout fanatics" who spent most of their time praying but were the quickest to judge, chastise, condemn and discriminate. It was enough to turn me off Catholicism entirely and I stopped going to Church as soon as I was old enough to live on my own.

looking good without spending too much money

Like it or not, people care how you look. Even if you think that to spend lots of money on clothes, shoes and everything else is crazy, there are people who you still need to impress with the way you look. What you value is one thing, but when you go for a job interview, it is important to impress your prospective boss and they care about your appearance. It does not matter if you think that money can be put to a better use – your boss will want you to look good every single day when you need to meet the clients.

But to look good these days does not necessarily mean that you will need to spend a lot of money. There are many ways how you can spend less than everyone else and still look good, stylish and elegant. Use overstock coupons to buy clothes that will not only look very expensive, but that will help you to impress people. To look good and appropriate you do not need to own a lot of clothes. Having few basic pieces that you can mix and match with other clothes can do the trick. People usually think that they need loads of clothes and end up spending so much money on things. Buy several classic shirts and pants with overstock discounts to upgrade your wardrobe. The clothes there are good-quality, so you can wear them for a long time without worrying about them losing their color. Cheap clothes do not look as good as they used after few washes and you are just forced to buy new ones. This way you are spending even more money, but with good-quality clothes, you will enjoy a blue sweater for a longer time.

However, not only clothes can make a difference. To create a completely different look without buying new clothes, you can buy accessories. They do not cost that much and with the right accessories, you can transform your look completely. There are many to choose from and the only problem you will have is only how to choose a few from a huge variety that there is. But such accessory as a watch is almost the most important to own, no matter if you are a man or a woman. Though good watches usually cost a lot, with overstock coupon codes for watches, you can afford to buy a high-quality watch. A good watch will not only serve you for a long time, but will make you look more professional, if, for instance, you are going for a job interview.

How you look is important, even if you think that it is a waste of money. There are many people that care how you look and like it or not, you need to impress them. Fortunately, there are such things as, for example, overstock promo code which makes it all easier and allows you to look good for not a lot of money. Go to overstock.com, buy the things you need and impress the people without spending a fortune.

babyliss pro miracurl review + tutorial

Saturday, January 17, 2015

Good Morning!

Like I've been saying in my previous posts, here's my review of the Babyliss Pro Miracurl or Pro Perfect Curl (which is what they call it in other countries).

Retails for P9995 and you can get it at select Watsons branches and Dept Stores nationwide that carry Babyliss (I only personally know of SM Dept Store).

Before you get yourself one, make sure to check this POST and find out how to spot a fake since the market is currently saturated with them.

So anyway, back to the review...(which is not sponsored btw...:P)

The MiraCurl comes with a hefty price tag but for me, I think it's totally worth it.

what to expect + bring: papal visit 2015 guide + schedule

Thursday, January 15, 2015

Hi! From what I heard, the Papal Visit concluding mass at Rizal Park/Luneta on January 18 is gonna be the biggest ever and they're expecting a really, really huge crowd.

I had the chance to visit the grounds today and check out the different areas so here's a guide to better equip you for the mob and what to expect come Sunday.

Getting There:

For private vehicles: I'm sorry but I don't know where you can park, the immediate grounds are off limits and I'm pretty sure that parking at the nearby H20 Hotel and Manila Hotel are out of the question. No parking allowed on all roads leading to Luneta. You're gonna have to park somewhere in Malate/somewhere else nearby, leave your car and walk from there.

Commuting: On the way home, I was thinking that the LRT was the smartest choice but I think they're closed. Not familiar with the stations but I'm thinking Quirino Station is the nearest but which will be closed from 5:00am-10:00pm on January 18.
There's going to be Red Cross stations along the way for those who might need medical assistance/attention.

It's hot, bring water and stay hydrated. I got a migraine from walking around the grounds and I was there from around 1pm-5pm, same time as mass.

While walking around the grounds, we caught the CNN peeps doing a live report. I think it was Anna Coren. Pretty cool cause it was all handled by just the 2 of them. Very impressive 2-man team. So professional:

There's portalets scattered around the area but didn't look like there were enough although I don't know because delivery was ongoing while I was there. Hope they add a lot more.

This is the main holding ground for people attending the mass. It's extremely hot here so it's best to wear a hat. I got really dizzy after a few minutes so...

What to Wear + Bring:

  • Ground is a mixture of soil, grass and sand. Wear comfortable shoes that you're okay with getting wet and dirty.
  • Cool and loose clothing (make sure its still conservative :P)
  • Hat + Sunglasses
  • Fan, water, transparent bag
  • Baby wipes/tissue/towel/face mist
  • Umbrella
  • PLASTIC BAG TO PUT YOUR TRASH IN

The main holding ground/viewing area is like a labyrinth, there's only a certain path you can pass to go in and out.

And it's pretty far from the stage.

The immediate area of the stage is barricaded, then there's a road, grassy area for tech people and finally, the holding/viewing area for the crowd.

For those of you planning to take pictures:

Make sure to bring a zoom lens (I'm not sure if this is allowed though).
At 3:30pm, the sun is located right behind the stage which will make it pretty challenging to take good photos.

And lastly, be patient and don't forget why you're here.

Pope Francis is the coolest pope ever!!!

Hope this helps, I think I covered everything, if you've got questions, please feel free to leave a comment below or tweet me @sarahtirona

babyliss miracurl - how to spot a fake (pro perfect curl)

I don't remember how or where I first came across the MiraCurl by Babyliss. I think I was searching for something else when I accidentally stumbled upon it. All I remember was that I was amazed and immediately sold.

I started searching online to look for a distributor. I couldn't find any but I did spot A LOT of fakes. Some were very convincing too! I almost bought one, good thing I decided to search more before clicking on the Paypal check out button.

The reason why I hesitated was because I knew from what I heard that it was pretty pricey (wasn't sure yet exactly how much then). Lazada had several for around P1500-P2000 and another one for P3500. I thought the P3500 was real, turns out, it's also a replica. I still don't understand why they choose to sell fake items, it's misleading and they're supposed to be a reputable seller. It also doesn't indicate on their site that it's not authentic. Also, I don't get the difference in prices. On eBay and OLX they're all pretty much priced the same (an average of P1500).

Can you believe how awful it would feel to spend P3500 on a fake hair curler? I wish BaByliss Philippines and Lazada would do something about that.

So anyway, like I said some are really convincing and I'd hate for you to accidentally damage your hair by making the wrong decision so I decided to write this post.

I finally found out where to get one after checking the Babyliss Philippines Facebook page. From what I gathered, you can only purchase an authentic MiraCurl at Watsons, SM Dept. Stores and other dept stores that carry Babyliss.

I got mine at Watsons Megamall because it was still on promo there: only P8995 instead of P9995. (At the dept store they were selling it for P9995.)

They also offer 3-month zero interest installment payment for all BDO credit cards.

Now you know where to get one but just in case you spot the odd bargain online from "balikbayan/byahera sellers", here's how to check if it's legit or not...

1. The box should have a sturdy built: thick cardboard + precise printing.

2. It should come with a warranty card inside. All authentic Miracurl's have a 1 year warranty.

3. Packaged with egg crate carton:

4. It should also come with a curl chamber cleaning tool (that fork-like thing below)
5. Long, swivel, round cord with white writing on it (fakes dont have this)
6. 3-prong plug

7. It's pretty heavy and has a good weight to it, fake ones are light and don't feel as sturdy.
8. The print is small yet clear and precise

9. They only come in black here in Manila.
10. And lastly, the price. If it's too good to be true, it's best to skip, add a bit and get the real deal at the mall.

ps. I was really tempted to get a fake one at first just because they're so cheap and I found this pretty expensive but the thing is, with the way the machine works, I kinda got scared. The Curl Chamber sucks up your hair and does the curling automatically. If your hair gets caught with the real one, it automatically stops therefore preventing any damage. What if the fakes don't stop (suddenly malfunction and just continue to suck your hair in til it burns? I didn't want to risk it so I just closed my eyes and handed over my credit card. Thankfully, it's so worth the investment! Posting my first ever YouTube (tutorial + review) video tomorrow. Hope you like! :)

2015's fashion must-haves (where to buy on sale)

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

I've done the research and scoured multiple sites + magazines so you don't have to.

Happy to report that most of 2015's must-haves are classic, investment pieces that you can wear year after year...

Although it might be okay to spend on pieces such as these, it's always better, if you can shop and save at the same time.

Maximize the onset of this year's end of season sales with this shopping guide that tells you where to go and what to buy so you can complete this list with maximum savings and have a little extra left for that super impractical but gorgeous find you might stumble upon in the process. ;)

comprehensive guide to 2015 fashion trends

Monday, January 12, 2015

Something I noticed from working in fashion for about 6 years is that trends are often recycled and just given new, fancy nicknames. Because of this, it's not impossible to find something current in an end of season sale especially when you're on the lookout for basic prints and block colors. Prints may be a bit trickier but also not impossible. Before you go and give your plastic a workout, here's what to look out for this year.

1. Shirtdresses - the classic look takes center stage this year. Wether you prefer a basic, oversized boyfriend look or slits that go on forever, anything goes. Expect to find them in different lengths, colors and silhouettes.

ootd + the young crowd

Sunday, January 11, 2015

So totally off-topic, did anyone feel the earthquake last night???

I just finished having drinks with Dennis and was about to get ready to sleep when he suddenly asked me if I was shaking the bed. As soon as he said that, I felt it. We live in a condo so we always feel slight tremors every now and then but this is by far the strongest I've ever felt since 1991.

Thankfully, it was quick and I don't think it caused any serious damage....

Speaking of 1991...

As I was going through my Twitter feed after the quick quake, I realized that I hang out a lot with the younger crowd. I came across soooo manyyyy (too many) tweets along the lines of "omg, earthquake #firsttimer".

What the heyyyyy! So it just occurred to me that they weren't alive yet when I was already busy trying to come of age. Ugh. #FriendshipOver. Hahaha

Anyway, glad everyone's safe and I hope that's the last of it.

About this #OOTD, it's old. It was shot at the BenCab Museum in Baguio when we visited last year. Funnily enough, I forgot to post which is a shame since this is one of my favorite looks from last year.

You know what they say, you need to look back in order to move on. meh. hehe.

So here you go:

2015 accessories report

Friday, January 9, 2015

Thinking back, I realized that I spend the most on accessories each year. Maybe because unlike clothes, you can use/wear them over and over. I don't mind spending a month's paycheck on a bag but I cringe at a dress that costs more than 5k for the simple reason that I'll only probably get to wear it once or twice while a good bag can last me years.

I know you're all like me. All women LOVE their shoes and bags. I think diamonds have taken a backseat as a girl's best friend these past few years.

Also, it's way more fun to shop for shoes and bags rather than clothes. They never make you feel too fat, too short, to tall or too thin. :P

So anyway, to help you decide what to spend your money on this year, here's a guide and my report on the hottest accessories you should watch out for this 2015!

The return of the "It" Bag

(and according to many fashion insiders, expect to see lots of Gucci on the arms of the stylish set this 2015)

look for show-stopping top handle beauties (preferably giving off a subtle 70s vibe.)

Statement Earrings (especially those that look vintage from your grandma's jewelry box)

Mismatched Statement Earrings:

Chokers (the 90s are back again...this time anything goes as long as it hugs your neck. Beaded, metals, etc)

Gladiator Sandals (mostly of the laced up variety)

Flats (think slides, neakers, oxfords, pointy-toes)

Platforms and Clogs (wear with culottes or midi skirts)

Circular Handbags? (because round is the new rectangle?!)

Obi Belt/Waist Belts (in leather or fabric)

babyliss pro miracurl review + tutorial

I've done the research and scoured multiple sites + magazines so you don't have to.

Happy to report that most of 2015's must-haves are classic, investment pieces that you can wear year after year...

Although it might be okay to spend on pieces such as these, it's always better, if you can shop and save at the same time.

Maximize the onset of this year's end of season sales with this shopping guide that tells you where to go and what to buy so you can complete this list with maximum savings and have a little extra left for that super impractical but gorgeous find you might stumble upon in the process. ;)

comprehensive guide to 2015 fashion trends
